Need Help with Setup.
Tuesday, July 22, 2008 7:14 PM
I am looking into purchasing Dspecs with Sportlines OR Koni Yellows with Ground Controls. Which would be a better setup, being I live in Michigan, with the winters.... What would the cost difference be? And I hear you need to use part of the stock strut for the Koni setup, I want to keep my stock struts for when I go to sell the vehicle. It would be for a 2000 Cavi Sedan. Thanks for any advice!

wow your hitting on alot of things here. im not trying to be a dick but my advice is read the faqs first to figure out what you want.

your strut choices are good however what your looking for height wise? do you want to be able to adjust the height of your car? if so then gc coils is what you want. if you dont care then sportlines is what you want. the price for either strut is about the same however the difference in price for the coilovers and springs is probably about a 300 dollar difference. dspecs with sportlines will run you probably around 800 or some what close where as koni yellows and gc will be around 1000-1100.

you said you wanted to keep your stock struts then i would go with dspecs. koni only makes inserts for our cars up front meaning you have to cut your stock strut just above the knuckle and use the knuckle from the stock strut on the bottom of the koni insert. if this is your first install dspecs are much easier since they bolt right in. also since your car is pushing 9yrs old if you never changed your strut mounts, now would be the time when you go to put in your new suspension. i prefer the 95-99 style mounts over the 00+ since the 95-99 are a 3 piece mount. the mounts would run you around 175 for all 4 at any local auto store. if you do this then you can fully assemble your suspension and when its time to install its simply a swap out and makes the job much easier.

that sums it up pretty much 100%

I DO like the idea of being able to adjust height, but it will cost me. Is there a spring with the leve between the pro kit and sportlines that I could use with the Dspecs? And the struts are new as of march along with the mounts, no worries there. Just tired of the massive wheel gap and body roll.

do you have the dspecs on their now? any spring will work with dspecs. check out the faqs, it gives you a list of lowering springs and their drop. id go with the tein s tech springs. they lower the car 1.8"

i don't have them on right now, i am waiting till spring to get them so i don't need to fight winter with a new setup, and i still owe 1k on the car. I will be running stock Ls Sport rims, too. Any pics of the Tein S tech springs on a cavi or sunfire? Thats a loooow drop.

Can the Dspecs take a coilover? I really like the idea of a coilover, just because of the adjustable heights. If possible what would be a good coilover for the Dspec. If not I may get the Tein S Techs.

I'm going with coilovers now, so it is probably the Tein Basics, they are adjustable if I am correct? Just need more info on them and some peoples input. I see it says you must purchase mounts, i just got new mounts put on back in march, would I need tp purchase them again, being they are bolt on coilovers?

the height of the teins are adjustable however the struts are not adjustable damping struts. for mounts you can use your stock ones thats fine.

awesome, looks like i will go with those. Think I could install those with simple hand tools, not need a spring compressor right? And where would you recommend buying the Basics from?

i know gravanatuning.com sells them. jason at aplus might be able to get them for you too. a spring compressor will be needed to take your mounts off your stock suspension. to put them on the teins though, no it will not be needed
