New CD deck in 98 Cav
Friday, May 06, 2005 3:45 AM
Hello,

I'm installing a new CD deck in my daughter's 98 Cavi. I've read the stories about finding a +12V switched wire in the Class 2 systems in 2000+ models, but I'm (fortunately?) not in that category. Will I have similar problems trying to find a switched wire in my situation or is at easy as buying a wiring harness and plugging things in. It's been 20 years since I've installed a car stereo - I know things have changed drastically so I'm pretty much a beginner here.

Thanks for your help!

the 95-99 have a normal system (no class 2) the +12V switched wire is in the actual factory harness on 95-99 j-bodies. If you go to Walmart or wherever find the harness for 95-99 Cavaliers (General Motors yrs 88-03) it will work. Also checkout the Metra site and scosche.

Like Jacob B stated. I replaced the stereo deck in my 1995 when I had it and just bought the wireing harness. Simple job to just plug-and-play.

2000 and newer models require Part # gmrc01 you can get it at any circuit city. this will give you switched accessory power as well as keep your lovely door chime. it's a little pricey though.
