Swapping out the stock CD deck for an aftermarket
Saturday, May 07, 2005 5:57 PM
2002 cavalier with the stock CD deck in it right now, swapping it for an aftermarket one for my girlfriend's sister. They went to circuit city and got this 90 dollar piece of junk that doesn't even allow the stereo to attach to the stock harness without splicing... so naturally I took it back. They told me it's necessary to have the door chime because the car won't pass inspection without it, but whatever. So best buy/auto zone doesn't have harnesses that will fit the car's factory cd harness, and I really don't feel like splicing all the wires. Has anyone done a factory cd -> aftermarket swap without splicing, or using the 90 dollar harness from circuit city?

OK, first, you buy an aftermarket cd player harness for your car, that gets spliced to the wires coming out of the sterior, then its plug and play assuming you bought the adaptor plate to make it fit the space in the dash, there is always going to be some splicing, but your into the stock harness, from the sterio's wires to the harness wires, then that plugs right into the stock harness

On the other hand....you have other fingers.

And I have never heard an inspection failed for no door chime.

Yeah just get the normal adaptor without the chime module and hook the wires from that to the wires coming out of the harness to the aftermarket hu and you'll be set. The only other thing you'll have to do is run an accessory wire from the fuse box and attach it to the red wire on the harness. Check the sticky at the top of the forum for more info.

OK. i had my stereo stolen.....

I have the factory wiring harness plug still there, but with my 4 front speaker wires cut really close.

I went to a car audio place today and asked how to hook up this other pioneer deck i have. He said just cut all the wires one by one (thus cutting off the adapter)

What I dont get is why is the plug/adapter still there if i had a pioneer deck already installed there ?

And is that aftermarket plug u talked about something that just plugs right into the factory plug ->>> then u wire that to the back of the aftermarket deck ?

yep, the adaptor plugs into the factory harness and has wires coming out of it which you match to the aftermarket plug by simply matching the colors up. Whoever stole your radio probably didn't look close enough to see they could just unplug it and cut the wires off to remove the hu.
