GM 100,000 mile warranty
Thursday, December 07, 2006 5:33 AM
Concerning the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty, is this here to stay or is it just a temporary thing like it was a few years ago.
After 9 years & 160,000 miles I am finally getting rid of the Z24 and I am going to be getting the Aura XR. My original plan was to wait till March when the most of the winter weather is gone. Just wanted to make sure they would still be offering the warranty at that time. If not, I might just have to buy one tomorrow!

With all the marketing that has been going on with it. I'm sure it will be here for a while. I don't remember it ever being a temporary thing though. When did they do that before?

I think it was early 2002, right after 9-1. They offered the 100,000 mile warranty for like 4-5 months just to boost sales.

But now they're not just doing it to boost sales, they're also doing it to compete with all the other car makers that put GM's former 3 year/36,000 mile warranty to shame.

5 year 100,000 miles is kinda weak still
i mean only 5 years? why not do 10 years and 100,000 or even 7 and 100,000

most people drive their cars well into the 100 thousand mile mark well before 10 years so i think five years is very reasonable

very true... i thought it was total BS... too make such a big deal about the 100,000 mile warranty-i WAS exited-than i saw that it was a mere 5 years.

wtf? so yeah... 3years/36,000 but 5years/100,000? shouldnt it technically be 5years/70,000 range to be fair?

or even 7 years/90,000 i mean come on GM, we know ur broke, but ur new "plans" suck balls. get a clue.

if this is the case, than why do the TOP selling companies in the world have a WAY better warranty than GM?

cuz GM is cheap as hell thats why.

Please explain. Do you mean top selling car companies in the world? So Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Ford.......they all have a longer STANDARD warranty than GM?

now if you look at all those, they all offer a powertrain warranty, usually the same amount of years, not as many miles, but they also offer warrantys for the whole car that last longer than GM's 3yr/36000 (some are the same) and some even have a 5,6 or even 7 year rust-free warranty.
MOST people do not do 20,000 miles a year or more
most people do around 12,000 a year average
so the majority of people will not have driven 100,000 miles in 8 years (theyll be close) nevermind 5
and the rest of the car could be crapping out on them but it wont be covered

i paid like 700 extra or something on the Redline i bought for the extedned warranty

so im covered bumper to bumper 5year/60,000
and the powertrain is the 5/100,000

thought it was a pretty good buy, i acctually paid more and bought an 07 instead of a leftover 06 to get it. def shows some confidence on GM's part
