Not quite...

When the Sunfire and Cavalier were discontinued, as was the J-body chassis.

The Cobalt and G5 are on a redesigned platform named "Delta"

i see, so the J body is dead? every good car must be cut off at some point , take the Escort for example it was built from 1980-2004 or 05 (US version) (Euro version is still being built), the cavalier came out when 81 or 82? thats a long time for one model to be built

1982 was the first yr for jbody! It all ended in 05 and thats a long run for one platform being it was used for cavs/sunbird then renamed sunfire.Gm did something that sold lots of them wether it was solid no issues or not.I like my first gen a whole lot.

I had a 97 ford Escort with 261K on it (winter beater for 3 years in a row). Then i sold it for $250 lol. I beat the crap out of that car very very badly (off roading, hill climbs, 9 large guys in/on it). NEVER once gave me trouble or left me stranded. My sunflower however was a night mare with not starting about every 3-6 months with 90k on it.

I bought an 88 Escort for $650 about 2 years ago. Turned around and sold it for $1,000 a year later. Who'd a thunk it?

1990 escort was my first car, paid $400 for it sold it for $450 at 290,000 KM. The only thing I did was change the oil, absolutly great starter/winter beater.

Not to contradict, but Ford has at least 2 platforms that I can think of that are older. The Fox body that ran from 1978 to 1993 completely unchanged and from 1994 to 2004 as the revised SN-95. Then you have the Panther platform for it's current full-size Crown Vics which has been existing since 1978, but even the Panther is just a revision of a platform that dates from 1969 at the latest and maybe even as early as 1965.

In my opinion, this is probably the oldest platform still on the road.
