Not planning on building this, but:
1994-96 Impala SS
- LSx swap
- Corvette transmission & Rear end
- Upgraded suspension or airbags & Swaybars Front and rear.
- HID swap.
(Leave the wheels alone or possibly swap for 19's)
Other than removing the power train, would there be any major impediments to doing this? Anyone know if someone has done this before? I'm just curious about this.
I'm sure it's been done many times.
LT1 is what it has now, right?
Shouldn't be hard to get an LS1. If I am not mistaken, depending on the year, the Corvettes transmission is the rear end. Would be sweet, but not sure if it's possible.
I would recommend an LS1 + T-56 swap, with an after market rear.
1983 Camaro Z28
LT1 yes...
And I don't follow... Corvette's Transmission is the rear end???
So, no driveshaft and its all in one unit? That's a little weird...
when i read pie in the sky in other cars i figure it would be someone eating pie in a saturn sky/solstice. im dissapointed

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again
i know there was an impala at gm nats in carlisle last year with a 6spd swap. i believe out of a late model camaro.
use the camaro or gto drivetrain
alot of frame work will need to be done to clear the motor and a/c compressor
that will be one badass cop car

1989 Turbo Trans Am #82, 2007 Cobalt SS G85
Yeah its been done.
I am not sure of any major problems one would have w/ this swap tho.
As for the rear it would have to be a fbod, gto or c4.

Hrmm... How much different is the LT1 and LS1? (I was thinking of an LS6, but that's out in the cosmos type stuff) Also, I was thinking of leaving it auto, for no other reason than driveability, and leaving the interior as stock as possible.
Machzel: awwww muffin... I'll post about shoe-horning an LS1 into the front and rear of a Sky. good for you?
LT1 is an entirely different block.
You can convert it to a LT4.
They can make good power.
You may want to see if gmhightechperformance has done it a ls1 swap.

LS2 has more low end tq to help with the weight of the imp
the imp has a better rear end than any f-body ever came with since 82 , they have the 8 1/2" rear already
the LSx's are alot different than the LT's
Sappy: I meant dimension wise... I just wondered if it could be done within the confines of the Impala engine bay without having to hack into the firewall or modifying other stuff.
I'd rather go with an LS block, for no other reason than I want to be cool like Jinxed

Okay we all know that's not true, Jinxed isn't cool.

(okay we all know that's the harsh truth but I'm trying to sound like I'm joking here)
Okay, Seriously I'd do it for the power potential. LT blocks are great, but the LS1's have at least 3 times the options, and its really been embraced by the market... not to mention it's GM's new darling engine.
tim the tool man , has a imp with a ZR1 5.7 32 valve in a imp
they got nothing but room
a/c and the drop down of the frame under the oil pan is the main issue with the LSx going in
the LSx will bolt up to the 4L60 trans in the imp
yea GAM that'll work jsut fine

Sounds good, minus the rear.
An aftermarket 12-bolt, 9inch, or S60 are in order.
the stock 8 1/2" is good enough for the fast grand nationals

This is how the Corvette driveline looks

Why is that pic labeled c5 chasis when clearly the next picture is the chasis.
O and size wise the LSx is the same size. As mentioned the oil pan and a/c might be the only things in your way. A gto engine might work better for you.

Lowfire: Must be a bitch to set up the linkage... I remember seeing it on a Fiero and was a little WTFish. That looks more or less what I thought it'd look like with the Driveshaft tube but I thought the tranny was up at the engine. I guess less parts is good parts, if not proper English
97trd: Sounds interesting. I'm not at all planning on building this car, it's just a pie in the sky notion (or spit balling... whatever), but if I did, I'd just like to know what I'd be in for. If this did in fact become a build, I'd be talking to an engine/car builder and get the engine squared away first, assuming that I had enough room.
I saw a stupidly low priced Impala ($5700 CAD, which is about $10000 less than they go for usually here), and got to thinking. I liked the cars even if they were a Caprice with a LT1 power plant.
Sappy: If it came down to it, and there was enough room and I had the money, screw the A/C and run a dry sump.

That's assuming I had money for it though
Jinxed: I found out aboot the rear end... kinda sucks.
