hey guys, my brother is looking at a yamaha yzf r6. it runs great, and looks clean. no problems at all with the bike. its a 2000 with 20k miles. it has a salvage title due to a theft. bike was stolen and had the motor stripped out. the owner replaced the motor with a BRAND NEW engine (engine only has like 12k on it). he's throwing in a leather riding jacket, gloves, and two helmets. the guy is askin $4200, he's planning on offering him $3200...is it worth it?
thanks
GO PATS!!!
I don't like anything with a salvage title. Plus how do you know the seller isn't actually fencing a stolen bike?
If ins. wrote it off why doesn't he have a new bike? A recovered frame is not a recovered bike. Just sounds fishy to me
The price is OK. Good for a used bike, kinda high for a salvage title.

the guy who's selling is a second owner. previous owner had the bike stolen and replaced the engine. the current owner has the title and everything else in his name and its currently registered.
GO PATS!!!
sounds good to me.
i'm baaaaack!!
he has the police reports that the last owner passed along to him.
GO PATS!!!
Fair enough.
Remember with a salvage title the bike has no insurable value. It can only be written off once, and it has been.
I think (assuming US dollars) the price is OK, not great, but not bad. If thebike is in top running order then it sounds like a pretty good deal. I'd still only buy it as a track bike, but that's me. Make sure the rubber is in good shape. look for balled up bits or chuncks, sure sign of a "stunted" bike. Often stunt bikes have run dry (oil doesn't flow correctly in a wheelie). Umm... Look up under the tail for cracks and bits of rubber... Makes sure the shocks are not leaking.. Umm.. can't think of more right now.. Just make sure it is in good shape.

there are insurance companies that specialize in insuring slavaged vehicles.
I am sure your local motorcycle dismantler has recomendations.
