ok so i just got my type j rear. was wandering if there is any special way to prep it. i know how to prep plastic and fiberglass, is it any different for urethane?
r u referring to prepping for paint?? or for primer??
either way, if its a brand new kit, i would let the pros handle it. they will probably use an adhesion promoter.....or at least i would want them to. and also its a good idea for them to use flex agent as well. less chance of shattering/spider webbing your paint.
where can i buy the flexible primer at? also someone told me you can put the paint and everthing you need in a spray can with its equal proportions? true?
possible...yes
smart....no
i wouldnt buy a bumper that selld for $250 only to rattle can it. do it right!!
flex agent can be bought at any auto supply store. sherwin williams auto, keystone, etc.
but again, dont rattle can prime or paint the thing...you'll be sorry
rattle cans are the devil. good luck finding a shop who will touch a spray bombed bumper without raping you for costs... don't do it
rattle cans DO NOT have the same quality as actual automotive paint
iam sorry but what you have typed you are clueless about the automotive field
so i will fill ya in here we go
the type of plastic you are refering to is just that its plastic so when you say you "know how to prep plastic and fiberglass" ya really don`t if ya asking and are confused on what you are talkn about on how to prep
ok so there is no need for "flexable primer" on a plastic bumper i use daily ncs 271 on plastic all day long you dont add flex agent to sealer either, base coat is flexable, now adding flex agent to the clear only helps the tech for installing of a flexable part that`s it!!! flex agent evaporates in 6 months
ok iam guessing this type-j bumper is a form of plastic correct??? now does the inside of the bumper do you see the iso code and does it say PU??? for polyurathene??? if it dont then its not what you think it is, let me also say that just because you see plastic doesnt mean its polyurathene allot of plastic is TPO,TPE,TEO,AND PP ford uses polycarbonate so when you have a piece of plastic in your hand dont always assume its polyurathene flip the piece over and locate the iso code and detrimine the type of plastic you have
so this bumper might be called "fiber flex" and it should have a primer on it, look for any imperfections in the material, and dnot use "bondo" on plastic use a plastic repair material on it
if it does not have a primer on it then its a whole different process of preping invovled,
so in closing save your self the hassle and let a shop do the work for you ok
can i haz bondo
well considering i got it from rk sports and its a urethane bumper....pretty sure i am going to trust their word. and yes i do know how to prep thank you very much i was just asking if there was anything special i had to do with it. please dont tell me that i am clueless in the automotive field. you dont know my knowledge nor the work i have done. simply just a question if there was any special thing i would have to do....enough said thanks for the responses guys
lol, dude your still asking about preping plastic, when you say you know how lol this is a double negative you make no sense
if ya think slapping on a body kit and painting your interior makes ya a pro your talking to soemone that has more knowledge then you have in your pinky toe
so when ya have a clue about preping plastic theni will be willing to help until then you remain clueless
can i haz bondo
