To trade, or not to trade...
Wednesday, September 17, 2008 2:19 PM
I just went to an audio store looking for some subwoofers and this guy asked me if I wanted to trade rims with him. He's got 7 spoke all white 18s for my 5 spoke 19s. So 2 questions...

1. How will all white rims look on my blue sunfire?

2. Do the same wheels that fit his volkswagen fit my 98 sunfire?

The 19s are really damaged from the previous owner though... And two of the tires are in need of replacing. One is just damn near treadless, the other caught a lovely screw in it. And its wayyyy outta budget for 2 new Kumhos @ 200 a piece...

You really should have mentioned that.

If the 18s are in good shape, trade 'em. The white won't look bad and check the bolt pattern of the VW he has. If it's 5x100 or the 18s are 5 lug universal, then you should be fine.

If you cant afford 19 inch tires, the trade might be a good thing to do since they are considerably cheaper.

Look up kumho escata tires, 235/35/19. Harder to find in shops here, and more expensive. I'll go in with the trade, provided he's got the proper lug pattern...

I won't be a car crushin, mud-boggin sunfiar much longer.

thats too big of a tire anyway. you want a 225/35/19

buy your tires from tire rack, its much cheaper

Kumho Ecsta SPT
235/35/19 = $150
225/35/19 = $134

just gonna throw my two cents in here and say id definitely trade, IMO white rims would look excellent on your blue fire especially after you lower it

if you cant afford tires, why are you modding a car?

i think you're in the wrong hobby

A bit harsh, but somewhat true. If two tires are "way out of budget", then I hate to imagine your approach if you every decided to lower the car. Anyways, I made my artist's rendition of your car in your other thread. Not sure if you saw it.

what's harsh about it? He's driving around on tires that are unsafe and im sure wont pass inspection by his description. So essentially he could be puting others lives at risk, but he's worried about modding a car? Sounds pretty stupid to me

Most of us couldn't afford to do every planned mod at once. A lot of us have overextended our budget to take advantage of a good deal. A few have probably even risked financial security just to save face on this site. You just don't hear the words "I drive a Cav/Fire. Here's what I want to do -- money is no object." Maybe I'm just too trusting, or just too used to hearing these things. In any case, I'm going to assume this guy has something like a steady income, and would have eventually saved the $300 to get tires, or else put stock wheels back on until he can. Maybe I'm just naive that way.

Geeky=awesome.

Thanks, I do have a steady income, but since this is my first car in like... Ever, I'm learnin what I can. And I couldve bought those tires if I wanted to. But I like eating on my breaks @ work & I wasn't gonna skimp on my lowering springs/shocks/struts. I just wasn't gonna lower it until a few weeks from now. U took the words "wayyyyy outta budget" a bit different then I meant it but that's cool.

And thanks for the artists rendition. Spectacular editing. I appreciate u takin the time out.
