Vauxhall is the same as Chevy in that they're both GM brands... but the Vauxhall Cavalier was not a j-body and is in no way related to the Chevy Cavalier. You shouldn't expect the parts to swap any more than you might expect the parts from an Astra to swap into a Cobalt. There could be some that are the same... but I wouldn't expect to find them.

well they both use the eco dont they?

Well technically, the 82-89 Vauxhall Cavalier was the same chassis as the 1st gen J's here in North America and around the world.... but the later ones were very different.
The "Ecotec" isn't just one motor... it's a whole family of GM engines now. The only Ecotec used here in J-bodies was the L61 2.2L DOHC version... but there's a lot of others... make sure it's the right motor before you go ordering parts from overseas

Right... to add examples to Lenko's post... the Eco that's used in the Solstice is a 2.4L VVT -- meaning, most parts wont work.
There's a 1.8L Eco as well that's used overseas
So while an L61 is an Eco, not all Eco's are L61's

What about the 2.0 Eco or the 2.4Eco?
And I think the Aveo uses something called EcoTec 2 or E-Tec 2 or something along those lines.
...

well M I N I O N is sayin that you can use the 88-89 2.0 dohc with XE parts.

here is what I got from M I N I O N in a PM

I'm confident you are asking about a 2.0 SOHC motor. Yes, the C20xe and C20let turbo cylinder heads will bolt up to an American 2.0 SOHC turbo or non turbo motor. The stronger rods and pistons can be bolted into the block. The crank can be swapped over. The thing is, the xe and let Euro motors use the same engine block from the same GM factory in Brazil as the American counterparts.
To swap the heads you need the full timing assembly, intake manifold and exhaust manifold. If you get the parts off of the turbo motor, this means a factory cast turbo manifold.
The biggest issue you will run into is the ignition system unless you are putting the parts onto a 2.0 mpfi.
If you decide to do a DOHC conversion, be sure to upgrade your internals. The DOHC heads will need DOHC pistons unless you have a 2.0 turbo motor where the pistons are dished. Also be sure to buy a Coscast version of the head, not a GM head. To diffentiate, the GM head has freeze plugs on the end of the head and Coscast does not. Coscast heads also have their logo stamped on the bottom between the three and four exhaust ports.

the ecotec name has been used sine the mid 90s in europe. the first motor to bare the ecotec name was actualy a 2.0l dohc, from the same engine family as the 1.8/2.0l sohc motor in the sunbirds. our current l61/lsj has evolved from that 2.0l ecotec, but its roots do come from the old 1.8/2.0l.

Try again, more like a clean sheet design and it has more common traits from the Saturn's 1.9L and Quad-4 family. The only thing that the Opel design Ecotec has in common to the American design Ecotec is the fact it is a 4cyl and its name.

here guys here what Minion told me about this

Part of the reasoning may be that you asked for parts for a 2.0 DOHC? The other part may be that they have no idea what a pontiac sunbird is. Try asking if a c20let head can be swapped over to a c20get (2.0 sohc turbo motor code in Europe, doesn't go by LT3 there.)
If they still say it doesn't fit, to hell with them. The swap has been done by myself and one other J owner in the states to my knowledge, possibly more.

^^^^^ Actually it was first used in the saturn L100 and saturn L200 before the Ion.
I'm still unsure of the question that you are trying to ask me. Are you asking about parts for your ecotec or parts for a 1st or 2nd gen J-body? some of the earlier vauxhall cavaliers were built on the J platform so they share suspension components and things like fenders can bolt up, but unlike the american J's, they will not line up with your doors when you swap parts between GM subsidaries.
My sunbird's engine block:

Vauxhall Frontera engine block:
Ebay auction link for that block
By golly I think they look about the same.
