the 96-99 2.4 will work on your 2.3. If you find a 2.4 manual tranny for cheap let me know im in need of one as well =(
if i remember right the 2.3 trans was stronger because of the izusus differential
^ The isuzu was the worst tranny/axle. The old Getrag and NVG 550 where the best.
