Hey guys,
I did a search and found NOTHING in answers to my problem. I was hoping someone might catch this and no first hand what's wrong. I have a '99 Z24 2.4 automatic
I took the car to work the other night and upon leaving, the car wouldn't turn over, but everything was on. I went under the hood and shook a few wiring harnesses and the car started right up.
The car was fine for about a week, and then I drove to my brother's house and it happened again, this time it stayed dead, even though everything registers as being ok. The lights work, fuel pump kicks on, everything is fine except the starter won't turn over. My brother wrote this in his findings:
Quote:
"I pulled the airbox off and checked the constant power to the starter = 12volts...that's good. I checked signal voltage to the starter with the key in the crank position and it was 0 volts. That's not so good. It's good in that the starter is okay and you don't need to buy a new one. Just to make sure, I jumped 12 volts to the signal terminal and the car cranked and fired up. It wouldn't stay running long, but that's probably cuz the airbox was off. So, now your problem lies in getting voltage to the starter. Without a wiring diagram it's very hard to figure out. I checked all the fuses in your Power Distribution Center and they're fine. I tried to locate a starter relay, but was unable as you can't hear it "clicking" with each key cycle. I found 2 relays in front of the radiator/behind the fascia...I swapped the 2 relay locations and bumped the key with no luck. So either it's not the relay, or neither of those is a starter relay. Again with no schematic, or component location it's all guesswork."
Any ideas on how to obtain a wiring schematic? Any ideas on what it might be?
Thanks for any and all help guys, it's GREATLY appreciated!!

I am having the same problem except mine makes the clicking noise. My battery tested in good health (only 8 months old), just low charge. But the charging system checked out fine as well as the starter. What makes that fast clicking noise and could it be the problem?
Sorry to thread jack but I need my car to run, had to jump it three times in the last two days.

thanks to the poppysleeper diagrams, if your ign fuse is good it can only be the automatic transaxle interlock switch or the ignition switch.
Shawn, fast clicking is almost always a sign of a bad contact.
Remove and check/clean battery terminals and Negative ground/earth points on chassis and engine block.

I have the same problem, my problem looks to be the neutral start switch.
Just waiting for it to happen again to check out.
