You shouldn't have to clear a misfire code, it is a constantly monitored system...it SHOULD reset itself VERY QUICKLY (although not immediatly).

You could have a bad coil as well. There are plenty of other things, but plugs, wires, coil are going to be the MAIN causes for a misfire.

Before buying any more parts, do a compression check. I had replaced plugs, wires, and eventually a fuel injector only to learn that I had a burnt exhaust valve on my 2.2 last year.
Once you know that compression is good, check the coil pack (you can try reversing the connections for the two plugs on that coil and see if the misfire moves), or if that all seems good, maybe the injector. There isn't too much else that can cause a misfire on a single cylinder. In the service manual it mentions possible porosity problems with the reluctor wheel on the crankshaft (causing the crank sensor to not "see" a pulse when it should), but I would think that is is a very unlikely cause.
Definitely check the compression though. All cylinders should be within about 10-20 PSI of each other. Mine was cylinder #3 that caused the grief. My compression readings were: 180, 180, 75, 180. I just wished that I had done that test prior to spending the money on the other parts I didn't need.
Keep us posted. I'd be curious to see if I'm not the only one who's had this happen..
John
P.S. - mine only had 175,000km on it at the time. How many miles (or kms) on yours?

instead of a compression test do a leak down test. It will tell you the same thing but if there is a problem it will tell you from where.

horsepower is the force that determines at what speed you hit the wall, torque is the force that determines how far you take the wall with you after you hit it.
