Power window motor/regulator

97 Cavalier 4 dr, right rear door.. The power window motor is dead. I pulled out the whole assembly, the motor and the regulator attached to it.. I can get a new motor/gear without the regulator assembly for not too much $$$.. How does one remove the regulator assembly from the old motor? Are there rivets that have to be drilled out or something, and then the old regulator can be bolted to the new motor? This is really a crappy design, obviously not meant to ever be replaced (I guess rivets are cheaper than nuts and bolts...)

If you got a multi meter test handy, That would help you out alot trouble shooting youre failed part. You could also trouble shoot with a youre 12 volt car battery, Just run a jumper wire to youre motor or switch, If the motor buzzes its no longer working even if its got no sound as well. For those rivets yes u have to drill those out, U can either use new revits or just get some nuts and bolts from youre local hardware store. Those power door motors can be pretty pricey. Ive done only a few myself. Everything should bolt right back together.

Good Luck.

The small rivets need to be drilled out.

The new motor should come w/ small replacement nuts/bolts for those.

Then, the whole assembly will need to be bolted back to the door...

*TIP* When you go to install the assembly back in the door, you will prob need to use bolts (unless you have a large rivet gun). My little trick is to slide the 2 bolts on the one side into the motor before you bolt the motor & regulator together. Once they are bolted together- you won't have enough access to those 2 holes to slide the bolts in, the gear on the regulator gets in the way.

This lets the bolts poke through the door panel so you can tighten em up w/ some nuts !!!!

Hope this helps!~

Thanks, the new motor did come with some small bolts/nuts to attach it to the regulator... I may not have a large enough rivet tool to attach the whole thing to the door, I'll probably use bolts and nuts for that also... I think it calls for 1/4 inch rivets, my tool only goes up to 3/16 inch, not sure if they would be large enough.... Thanks for the tip on fitting the 2 bolts before attaching the motor to the regulator, I am sure that would have bit me....
