Hey guys, I've got a problem and I've search here but haven't found an answer.
I have a 2000 Sunfire Gt. A couple of days ago I had the passenger side fog light burn out. That night I turned on my highbeams coming home and all the lights went out. The remaining for light , headlights and the turn signals.
When I turn the highbeams back off the lights come back on.
I replace the fog light yesterday with an 880 bulb. Still the same problem. I then realized my DRL's were not working and still causing the service engine soon light to appear. I just replaced the DRL relay and I'm still having the same problem. As well the DRL's do not work even after changing that.
The only other thing I can think of the recently the headlight stalk has started to feel loose when using the turn signal.
But having said that I use my foglights every morning on the way to work and the problem only started when the fog light burnt out.
So here it is.
1.fog light burns out.
2.highbeams cause all other lights to turn off.
3. fog light replaced.
4.same problem with highbeams.
5.DRL relay replaced.
6.DRL's still do not work.
7.same problem with highbeams.
My next stop is the dealer, but can anyone here help?
Thanks
Ok here's another thought I just had. Maybe that fog light had been burnt out for some time. The service soon light could have originally been for the DRL's?????
Does the car know when a fog light burns out and the alerts the driver though the service soon light???
Check all your bulbs again and pay special attention to the filaments. I had a light "burn out"...but when the filament went it actually fell back onto another filament in the bulb (ie- like a high beam filament falling on a low beam filament). So all the lights still worked as they should. It caused a short in the electrical...I even remember my check engine light coming on.
Well here's something else I notice about my problem. The drivers side rear side marker is burnt out.
I have extra bulbs so I put one in and it doesn't work. I check the original and it's not even burnt out!
It's just not getting power.
Anyone here help?
