okay another problem arises with my 97 sunfire.
2.2 engine, automatic transmission.
when i and am driving it seems like it doesnt want to change gears. seems like the transmission is slipping. when i slow down to take a corner it shifts hard and jerks.
once in a while it stalls when i come to a stop.
the stalling happens when the the car is having a shiftig problems.
some days the car works perfect.
i changed the transmission filter and fluid.
i also looked up at autozone.com for some diagnosis of the problem.
here is what they say.
Priority Action Part Type Cause
2 Inspect Transmission Temperature Sensor Damaged, worn, or faulty transmission temperature sensor or transmission temperature sensor circuit.
3 Inspect Transmission Fluid Capacity Incorrect transmission fluid level
4 Inspect Transmission Fluid Type Improper type or level of transmission fluid.
5 Inspect Transmission Control Solenoid Damaged or faulty transmission control solenoid or circuit.
6 Inspect Transmission Kickdown Solenoid Faulty transmission kickdown solenoid or solenoid circuit.
7 Inspect Transmission Modulator - (A/T) Worn leaking or faulty transmission modulator valve or vacuum system.
9 Inspect Transmission Cable Detent (A/T) Damaged, worn, or incorrectly adjusted transmission detent cable.
10 Inspect Transmission Cable Shift (A/T) Worn, or incorrectly adjusted transmission shift cable.
12 Inspect Transmission Filter (A/T) Clogged or dirty transmission filter.
13 Inspect Transmission Control Module Damaged or faulty transmission control module or circuit.
15 Inspect Automatic Transmission Internal transmission/transaxle problems.
i was wondering if anyone has a simular problem and knows what it could be. i am hoping it is not the transmission going bad. like i said it works fine somedays.
any suggestions are appriciated. thanks

what transmission do you have?
its a automatic 3-speed THM 125c
just found out its called 3t40 also
so a 3speed automatic
thm 125c/ 3t40
okay so today i checked the transmission fluid again. for some reason it was low. like gone low. i have been checking it and it has been normal. now all the sudden it is low. so i added some and it was perfect. then shortly after it was very low again. Just last week i changed the trans. filter. it is not dripping or leaking. i put in 5 quarts of fluid. shouldn't that be enough? also today i added Lucas oil to help the hard shifting.
so m y question is where would the fluid go?
thanks for your advice.
if you drained the trans.......5 qts is probably not enough. did you run it for a few minutes and then change through all the gears before you checked the level? plus, if you dont see any leaks, then you definately didnt put enough in.
