i just bought my first cavy yesterday, i bought it as is, "hints" why i only paid $500 for it, but the previous owner said he drove the cavy to school, it started acting funny right when he got in the parking lot, so he parked it and when inside. well, after school he goes to the car, and it doesnt start. he took it to 3 different mechanics and they all said they're guess was the timing chain. if the timing chain broke, wont i have bent valves? i thought maybe the timing gears went bad, after all i think the teeth are made out of nylon, which is dumb, i dont care if makes noise, damnit i want metal gears. anyways, any ideas of what might be wrong? or has anyone else had this prob.. please help, i wanna drive my car.
you need to be more specific. what noises, where the noises are coming from, is it starting, turning over, do you see flames, etc.

The timing runs around a toothed wheel on the crankshaft (cast steel), water pump (cast steel) and around the two cam gears (also cast steel). There are no nylon teeth in the timing system on the 2.4.

he said it sounded like it was knocking, but he said it wasnt as loud as a knock, almost like a tick. he also said it was like it was starting to lose power. it doesnt actually start, but he says it will try. i dont know about the flames or whatever because i havent actually picked the car up yet, i just got the title yesterday. it doesnt have a battery in it, so i dont know if it knocks when it trys to start or not. also, i thought the 95 Z24 only came with the 2.3 quad 4?. even though mine says 2400 quad, i think someone put the 2.4 in it later. also, sorry, i though most engines had nylon teeth gears, i'm only 18, im not very experienced with this stuff, thats why im asking you guys.
The starter was taken to auto zone and it passed.
what else could be wrong with it?
