Looking at the topic I can see how questions could be raised about the prowess of my mechanical skills. I have been running four quarts for most of its life as specified by my owners manual (pg 5-85). I just recently purchased the Haynes manual and I was looking through it and it specifies 5 quarts for the "2.2 OHC". I think sticking to the owners manual is the way to go but I wanted to check with the .org first. So which one is correct?

i would stick with what the owners manual says
US Air Force
Jet Mechanic

I wouldn't trust either one. Use your dipstick as a guide.

2.2 OHC im assumeing its the ECOTEC, but people have been known to call the 2.2 OHV an OHC. I always use 5 qts in my eco.

As noted, assuming you're talking about the eco, it's 5 quarts. The owner's manual was a misprint, if you ask a GM mechanic to look it up, the updated info from GM is 5 quarts. Although, it doesn't seem to have hurt your engine.

It's always been 4 1/2 in my 2.2's

On GM's SI it says
Engine Oil with Filter
 2.2L Engine (Ecotec) - 4.8 liters - 5.0 quarts
2.2L Engine (LN2) - 3¾ liters - 4 qts (3.5 without filter change)
Hope that helps.

I guess posting the correct engine would help. I was definately refering to the ecotec. Sorry about that.
