97 Sunfire... been doiung this since i bought the car. when hitting bumps, it clunks. big or small, it clunks over every bump. it doesnt matter if i have the 17's or the 14's on it or not. its a rether annoying noise, and i'd like to make it go away. any help appriciiated (yeah i know i spelled that wrong) THANK YOU GUYS

Had the exact same problem its one of Four things. I will list them in order from easy to hard.
1. Open your hood look from the top of the strut mount, there is a large bolt that tightens the mount to the strut. If have aftermarket suspesion it can get loose sometimes if you do bad job.
2. Control Arm Endlinks - easy to do
3. Strut Mounts themselves - can happen.
4. Control Arm Bushings - easy to check jack car up and look at bushings.
mine does this too, its coming from the rear of the car, i have narrowed it down to bad struts...
If you shake the car or bounce on it with the car not moving it will make the sound. If you take the presure off the rear end, it wont make the sound...

Ok so i had that issue, it was a loose Strut Mount bolt, there is a small chance it can be that. If not it is sadly the mount itself. I dont know if you have any auto repair experience but replacing rear struts aren't hard since the spring **IS NOT* compressed in the rear of the car. Therefore you can replace the strut yourself easily.
you know whats the best part? since you cant really set your Camber or Toe in the rear of the car, you dont have to go get a alignment after replacing any rear suspension part. woowowooooo
but my struts are like new, and it wont do it if i bounce the car, just on bumps. I am leaning toward control arm bushings.

I had a similar problem a while back and it ended up being a rubber exhaust hanger. The one that supports the muffler had broken causing a knocking / clunking sound from the rear of the car. I would give it a quick check just to make sure its not your exhaust hitting anything. Good luck.

Mine is broken...this is a diff clunk...and those strut mounts dont matter enough to me to replace. they still work. i paid only $1000 for the car, when its sitting on the bumpstops i will replace. My 2006 Civic EX and my 1996 Lexus LS400 are my babies...I dont drive the LS here in upstate NY its in storage at my parents place in TX.

nah i found out its the mounts. doesnt have the stock pipe anyway. thanks, though.
