car pulling to the left : found a issue
Thursday, February 19, 2009 9:11 AM
ok well i got new tires last week and even before i kept hearing this klinking sound when i turned left then back right. thinking it was the tire i bought 4 new ones.

after drving i found the car was pulling to the left and the noise was still there. so last night i popped off the tire and checked the cv joint and everything else.

the only thing i found was where the cv joint goes into the control arm is a bushing or something with grease in it that had busted open.

anyone know what im talking about and if it could cause the problem?

Cv axle (half shaft) going out makes a grinding/ klicking noise usually very visible in the steering when when you turn in one specific direction some time if both go out it is apparent in both direction and when flat tracking.

I had the tires rebalanced before i spent the money on new tires and when balancing didn't work i crawled under the car and the cv boot was split in 2 and flung grease every where

well its not the boot thats split. its on the opposite end. where it connects to the control arm (at least i think thats what it is) there like a little rubber grommet looking thing on it that was tore open.

if anyone know what the name of this piece is please let me know so i know what to order.

The axle does not connect to the control arm. Tha axle comes out of the transmission, has a boot covered joint, then goes to the spindle/hub, where there is another boot covered joint, then through the hub/spindle, where the axle nut holds it.

If either of these boot covered joints are broken, and grease is thrown about, it can very easily cause a clicking, especially when turning. This is usually not felt in the steering wheel.

its not the part the big boot covers .... its on the opposite side (other end, closest to the tire) thats where there is this little boot thats split.
