I have an 03 cavalier LS Sport, no damage from accidents or anything, and the driver side door wont latch. the door closes all the way, but the latch wont catch. It happened about a week ago, and i just pulled the inside handle a few times and it fixed itself so i figured it was a fluke, but it just happened again and wont close.

the door closes fully, but just like bounces off, and the latch wont catch. no damage, the door is aligned right, no sagging or anything. Any ideas or things i should check for? I put a screwdriver in the latch and it closes and doesnt seem to stick or anything, but it wont latch that way either. could the latch itself need replaced? I'm at work right now and id like to take care of it before i have to drive home holding my door shut.

Are the allen bolts that hold the latch in tight? My friend had a rear door (01 Cav sedan) that he never used work itself loose.

Ok so the latch is toast and needs replaced. Dealer wants 100$ for it. Are all the door parts from 95+ interchangeable so I could go pull a latch out of the 'yard?
