hey everyone,
so i have a 04 sunfire and the serpentine belt snapped on me. Went to the shop for a new belt and the tool. got the motor mount off and went to use the tool to get the belt around the alternator and the tool is too long and cant get enough leverage on the tool to pull the tensioner. has anyone else had this problem before?? i tried changing the angle of the tool but there is a 18mm bolt in the way that holds the motor mount bracket to the motor and there's not enough room to get the bolt out without lifting the engine.
i think im gonna have to resort to cutting the tension pully tool to get the leverage in need.

I just took off tire and the inner plastic wheel cover off the right side of the car, Used a wrench, And had a buddy take the off from the top of the motor.
Its called a serpentine tool, because of where the tensioner bolt is on a jbody its too tight against the frame rail to accept a socket, its a bar with a 3/8ths inch square welded on it.
It will help you a ton!

already got it but that was my issue

I know yours is not a 97 but on my 2.2 this is how tight it is you can't fit a socket in there. Is yours like this?

i have same engine...use 15mm box end wrench and lift up, no socket...and put the belt on the tensioner last so simple
yeah thats about the space i have on mine. just enough rrom to fit the tool in and pull the tentioner up, but like i said the tool is too long and i didnt have enough room to do it from the top. I dont want to have to cut some length off of my brand new tool but if i have to i will.

Use a wrench like dude said.
I've worked on a few eco's at work.
water pumps, belts, alternators.. timing chains... and I just use a wrench and plan to beat up my nuckles.. makes it hurt less.

i just use my standard 3/8 socket wrench with no issues. great leaverage and everything.
