im searching the wreakers for a 2.4 to rebuild to put in my 99, its a non egr, i know i need a block off plate, switch injectors, etc. But which engine other than 99+ is the easiest to convert to a 99+ By that i mean the least amout of things to change to make it work.

do you have a 2.4 now ??? Fill out your registry so we can help you more.
I think the 99+ have different Knock sensors.
there are dones of post on this subject try doing a little search.

Hit 200 NA it broke once, Hit 213 it broke again,
Hitting 300 NA is further away than I thought.

sorry bout that, its all filled out now.
Anyways, I have a 1999 2.4 now, but im looking for another engine to put in there, and i havnt had any luck finding a (re-buildable) 99+ block in the classified and wreakers in my area. The closest i could find was 96 2.4, it has the egr, but thats easy to convert. But i heard that 96's is the worst engine to use, but i forgot why.
Does the 99+ have 2 knock sensors? i think that was the problem, the 96 only had 1 and another one has to be drilled in, but im not sure on that. And theres also the issue with the oil pan and timing chain cover is different inside.
I would like to find a 99+ block for a easy re-build, but its so hard to find one, so i'm looking for the next best block year to use.

actually .. there is only 1 knock sensor on both .. the 96-98 I think have a 1 wire smaller sensor where as the 99+ have a 2 wire larger sensor. Other than that you can go all the way up to 2002 1/2 .. remember Grandams, and malibus also came with this motor not just J's. I also know there is a difference with the starters in 00 maybe someone can inlightned us both about that.
