mobil 1 synthetic, 10w 30.......in the winter i switch to 5w30, just in the summer i don't see the need for thicker oil

Penzoil/ Quakerstate 5w-30. Although, I've started putting 10w-30 in it for the summer now. After 173K+ miles, I figured it was time to change the regimine!
I've also started 'playing' with the so-called 'high-mileage' formulas. Don't know what I'll gain from them. It seemed like a good thing to do at this point since I don't wanna buy a new engine!
Urk! ack! Forgot to mention...try these guys out:
Titan Laboratories. Got some one-time kits at Kmart a while back, don't think they sell them anymore. Anyway, GREAT value for the cost! You send in a 4oz sample of used oil with a small fill-in report on where it's from & what it started as, they run it through the tests, and you get both lab-level and a dumbed-down version either in the mail or over the web (maybe both, not sure).

be careful with that, i put in the mobil extended 5000 mile oil and after 4500 miles the oil had become a stinky black sludge, not good at all, i don't trust it, just stick with mobil 1 synthetic

Valvoline 5w30 here plain and simple.Plus have 205,000 no problem with that.
mikec your oil did that because you might be burning oil. I run mobil 1 15,000 mile oil. Giving it a try and seeing what happens. I check it every month and it still looks good and every bit is in there that i put in.
Mobil 1 Tri-Synthetic 5w30. Little more expensive, but after 3k miles it's still gold, and it actually made a noticeable difference in gas mileage.
I may not be the sharpest crayon in the box, but at least I'm a pretty color
Royal Purple 5w-30 in z24 and royal purple 10w-30 in either camaro. I travel about a 100 miles to and from work daily, so I need oil that last longer than the 3-5000 mile intervals. RP is awesome, but expensive.

I use Valvoline Synpower or Mobil one. I just used the extended Mobil what ever it is called for up to 5K
