Car makes sounds when turning wheel to left.

Hi I am looking for someone to give me an opinion on what could be wrong with this car I am currently test driving. It is a 2001 Pontiac Sunfire GT, 2.4L 5spd. On my way out to the lake yesterday it was making a funny sound and I turned the steering wheel to the right and it was fine but when I turned it to the left it made the sound every time. The sound is like the tire is rubbing really bad against the wheel well or strut maybe. Also it makes the sound while driving at slow speeds but you can hardly notice it because it is very quiet then but at high speeds(100 km only) it is very loud. I have felt the inside of the tire but there doesn't seem to be any abnormal wear on it. I am going to take the wheel off so I can see the tire and wheel well. If it isn't either one could it be the CV joint maybe? Any replies will be very helpful. I am going to take the car back to to the dealer tomorrow and get them to come for a ride and hear the sound.

I had a problem similar to that .... what happened with mine was the strap that holds the muffler in place snaped and the muffler would rub against the rear tire when taking a left hand turn. I would check your exhaust system to make sure its secure.

Thanks, I'll take a look at that as well.

if its only when you turn your wheel, then its definitely your wheel bearings. both of mine had been bad for a while and i just replace both front bearings and its all good now. you should get the Timken bearing/hub assembly. it was $80 at autozone for me.

Peace Out!!!

Thanks Enrique R. It must be a wheel bearing because there are no marks on the tire or on anything inside the wheel well that would suggest it was rubbing. I am going to phone the owner of the dealership and tell him abou tit this afternoona dn hopefully they will be able to fix it soon. I really like the car and I will definately buy it once they fix this problem.

tell them to change out both with the timken bearings. and that will be your deciding factor.

Peace Out!!!

How much would i expect for Labor for both sides? (My left one is going bad as well, makes a humming noise when turning left, but not right), its a shame, cause i just bought the car about two weeks ago, and the warranty doesnt cover it.

not sure how much labor is for it. i bought my timkens for 80 bucks each and installed them myself. it was pretty easy except for getting the seal in there. it got some instructions from www.bradiscool.com

Peace Out!!!
