Problem with power window going up!
Wednesday, August 10, 2005 5:51 PM
I just noticed that my passenger side window won't go back up after I rolled it down!!! They are power & right after I put it down a little way, I tried to roll it back up & it won't go!!! I had to fiddle with it for about 20 mintues to get it back up!!! Would this maybe the motor going out?? Also what would be involved in fixing this!!!! Please help!
Thanks!!

I've had that happened to my driver side. It would rolled down easily and then it would take sometime to roll back up, like it needed "charging" for every inch it rolled up. I ended up replacing the motor and it's all good. Wasn't hard at all as long as you have some kind of driller to take the rivets out.

^^ Word...

But from what I've learned so far.. I see when it takes forever for the window to go up, it's the motor.

My window wouldn't go up at all, and it was my switch. Just popped it out, cleaned it, and life was good

I know it's JUST a Cavalier, and I'm sorry if I hurt your ego.

Ok cool. Yea on mine it will work, then stop, then I have to wait about 5 minutes & then it will go a little farther! It must be the motor then, where is the best place to get one of these at? Also does anyone know where there would be a step by step listing on how to do this? I am not very mechanical!!
Thanks!!

I bought mine either off eBay or Autozone, can't really remember. Just go to Autozone or O'Reilly and find the right part for your car. Autozone also has an online guide here. The hardest part would probably be the rivets. Once those are taken out you're right on your way to be "mechanical".

Welcome to power window HELL. thats the motor and its a PITA to replace. the rivets hate to be drilled and putting screws back in behind them arent any more fun. not to mention the black goo from the plastic insulation panel getting allover everything or the grease from the window assembly. on a Positive note youd be amazed at what you can find inside the door.

^^^^^^no @!#$, just replaced mine today and what fun. got the motors at advance auto for 95 after tax, LLwarranty so i don't care how many times they go if i don't have to buy them anymore. i guess i will have to get used to not reaching across the car to open the passenger side window.

btw i found it really nice when i had someone else there to hold the window for me when needed instead of taking the glass completely out or trying to hold it myself while wrestling with the motors.

have fun

Well I just got the motor today!! Picked it up from Napa. Now I just tried the window & it will go down but not back up!! Is it the motor for sure, of might it be the switch?? I hate to replace the motor & that not be the problem!!
Thanks!
