Please Help, NO Brakes, jumping idle!

Hey guys, I have a huge problem, or so my wife says, unfortunately I'm out of state working. It's a 97 cavalier with 2.2 auto, She said she was driving and she didn't have any brakes so once she got slow enough she threw it in Park (real great on an auto tranny) she says there is brake fluid everywhere, and that the idle is jumping REALLY bad. She let me listen and it sounded horrible. I just cant believe that 2 things go wrong like this at the same time. It does have 132,000 on it but i take care of it (all scheduled maintenance) The wheel bearings are bad but I did plan on replacing them this weekend. Some guy her pap knows took the map sensor off and it stops, but usually that doesn't mean to much, or so I heard. Please fellas help me out here. Thanks

Oh boy.

Kind of sounds like the vacuum booster went .

The vacuum booster is what makes your brakes "power brakes", it simply uses the engines vacuum to help "suck" the hydraulic piston to give your leg more stomping power on the brake pedal. When it goes the engine looses lots of vacuum and idles like a pig (open vacuum system means the engine gets too much air). On the camero this meant I still had brakes, I just had to almost literally stand on the pedal to get the brakes to work.

I don't understand where the brake fluid comes in, perhaps the breakdown was sever enough that the piston came out of the master cylinder as well, it is connected to the pump booster.

Dude you guys are awesome, I didn't even know it had a brake booster. Why would the master cylinder need to be replaced also? Yea I drove it today, started her up and idle's like at 2500, then started driving it to get it to my house and it started bouncing, but when it bounced it would act like a brake, She was right about the puddles 2 of them, but I still had fluid, and still had brakes, but like you said they were pretty hard to press. Do you know anyway of checking either of them to make sure thats the problem? Also it has got a C.E.L. I'm gonna get it scanned tomarrow and hopefully that narrows it down a lil.
