AC QUESTION....I want to bypass the AC FromTheBelt
Wednesday, August 17, 2005 3:24 PM
Hi does anyone know whether or not it is safe to disconnect the AC. When i say that, I mean to buy a serpentine beltt for the 2.4L that dosnt have AC, and hook it up to my car that has AC, thus meaning that the belt would not b connected to the AC. I wantt to know, whether there is anything else I must do, likee disconnecte any power wires, or relieve preessure from the AC, or is it just a easy , reroute the belt kinda thing. Anyway th reason why im doing this, is the bearing is gone, and I have to leave the AC on in ordeer not to hear that awful noise, secondly I hate it, i just want it off. anyhelp is appreeciated.

I pulled my compressor because it was leaking and i didnt have enough money at the time to fix it. I did run the belt that is for no ac compressor for a while with the compressor still on my car with no problems.

yes, u can just bypass the belt routing by doing this:

goto your parts supplier or go online to look it up on www.autozone.com or www.partsamerica.com or www.napaonline.com or whatever your local parts place is online...

enter/tell the counter guy u need a serpentine belt for your year make model & specify NO AC... & BINGO! while you're in there, i suggest renting the serpentine belt tool to make installs soo much easier.

keep old belt in trunk or garage or whatever... it should work... reply w/ your experience, please. thanx

did u mean u haveta leave the AC OFF? you'll also haveta not direct the air flow to the WINDSHIELD only... if you do put it in defrost mode, then the ecu will try to click the AC on... i'd just put the airflow on windshield/feet if the option is there or just use anti-fog on the inner windshield during the winter months...
