Very little power to wheels, clutch?

2001 Cavalier 2.2, getrag:

I did a search and see a lot of clutch problems, but none that describe what I'm going through. I'm pretty sure I just need a new clutch kit, but I'll run it by you other guys with j's.

First off, it keeps getting worse. I go to take off, release the clutch and give gas, it revs really high and long before it starts to take off very slowly, so I shift to 2nd, same response...lots of engine power, its just not getting to the wheels. I'm driving and lets say I slam the gas, same hesitation with very very very little response. Same problem in all gears, also it seems that while I'm just cruising at a constant speed, the engine rev is much higher than should be for the speed im going (just loss of power somewhere...). It is also much easier for the me shift without the clutch now, will doing this extend the time until I loooooose it?

I had this problem start about 3 months ago, drove for about 2-3 weeks with it like this, broke it out again a couple days ago and still doin it. ( I just wish that time would have fixed it :-)

The clutch fluid is full, never had leaks or anything. Is there a way to just CHECK the tranny fluid or would it not even be the culprit?

I dont really mind changing the clutch/slave, but dont want to spend the time doing it if I don't fix it. But if that is the case, I see a Sach's clutch in an ebay store for like 275 with everything including the slave cylinder, any words on the quality of them? How about Exedy?

your clutch is slipping.......you need a new clutch...drop the tranny get your flywheel resurfaced and but a new clutch...install it along with a new throw out bearing and pilot bearing and your all good...just make sure when you do that u align everything up right or u will have tons of major problems

Clutchmasters stage two. Works GREAT for me! Better than OE without going high performance. Heed the wear-in period!!! You'll also haveta get used to a clutch actually grabbing! Haha.

there is no pilot bearing on the getrag, just so you know.

I would suggest getting a SPEC so far it has been working like a charm. Good luck. oh and yeah your clutch is slipping REALLY bad, replace it ASAP or it will burn up on you.

So I dont need to get a slave cylinder with it? I know i should while I'm in there but since its not a big problem for me getting in there and I'm trying to do it for little money I'll be fine without one right?

ok, just got off the phone with parts dept. at the dealer and they have the clutch disk and pressure plate for 270 in stock (auto part store 450+ including slave). this doesnt include a slave cylinder...no pilot OR throwout bearing, hes showing that the car doesnt have either of those...

also he says theres no real reason to replace the slave if its just the clutch thats out...

Comments and suggestions PLEASE? I dont know what to do now...if I just need to get what the dealer has I'll go with that one but dont wanna be stuck without needed parts...thanks again.

The slave cylinder shouldn't be giving you any problems. Like everyone else has said, your clutch is slipping. When it's slipping, it's heating up, this the problem is worsening the more you drive it.

Why not take this opportunity to get an upgraded pressure plate, clutch, possibly a lightened flywheel? Either way, you DO have a release (throwout) bearing. That is what is spinning while you have the clutch pedal pressed down to the floor.
