ticking noise at WOT and higher RPMs
Monday, August 22, 2005 6:32 PM
When my car is idling I have a slight lifter tick but it is not that loud and you cannot hear it in the car, only with the hood open.

Once in the car and moving, if Im at WOT and in the power band I here tick tick tick tick coming from the motor.
Here is the kicker, it only does it when the car is in gear. If I put it in neutral and rev it never makes the ticking noise.
I think it has done this for a while since before I had my transmission rebuilt 5 times, so I can't think of what it would be.

I switched to Mobile 1 at 25,000 10w30.
At 36,000 I swtiched to mobile 1 5w30 just to see if it would quiet the lifter tick and it did a little.
However I don't think its lifters because it only happens when car is in gear. Does not matter what speed.
Any ideas??

I heard all ecotechs have the "ticking" noise and if you but high octane fuel in it fixes the problem
my buddies ecotech had a slight tick to it and putting in better fuel fixed the problem

with my buddies eco you really didn't hear it much at higher revs and such, just at idle waiting at lights and such we would hear a "slight" tick
now as for my car i have a major ticking noise, but i have a 2.4L and the ticking goes up with the rpms and slows down when reving down back to idle, but you say yours doesnt tick in neutral......mine does. and so did my buddies eco
well i dont want to stear ya in the wrong direction so goodluck with that .
as for my ticking problem. im getting payed today then ill be bring my car to shop to get it fex

Yeah its really starting to piss me off now, I dont know if its possible because the engine is under more load when its in gear or not. To me I wouldn't think so, motor should be doing same thing at same rpm regardless of whether its in gear right?
I don't know what else could cause it, I don't want to take it into the dealer, my car and dealers do not get along but it might have to come to that.
