the other day i started my 03 5spd eco and it sounded like my exhuast was popping but it only did it at idle for about 30-45 seconds then stopped it ran fine for 2 days and did it again...could this be my cat getting clogged or is there something else that someone knows about this

A few things to look for in an cat going bad.... Rattles, loss of power, rotten egg smell is the first signs. I had an 84 and when my cat went bad, it went bad, car had a nasty idle, barely seemed like it wanted to run and at night when I surveyed the problem in the engine bay, the exhaust manifold was glowing..... So heat would be an issue. The other thing to consider is that the heat shield might be loose....that may explain the popping. You will also notice an exhaust note change. Just keep an eye on it

It sounds like the valves might be not seating.
