My tensioner is being a whore. It's not holding tension anymore, and i'm told i need to replace it along with maybe some other things. Is there anyway someone can give me a walkthrough? Its a 98 2.4

Your gonna need the following:

1-Timing chain tensioner and shoe
2-The 3 plastic guides

I think theres a walkthrough here:

Timing Chain replacement walkthrough

You dont have to change the timing sprockets or the chain but I still changed my chain just for the hell of it while I was in there, a cam swap is fairly simple when you have the timing stuff of it. Hope that link helps.

Might be able to get that part cheap from a wrecker, not really sure on how to get it off though shouldnt be too much of a hassle.

I read your other post..

Are you sure you've got the belt routed right??? is the nut on the tensioner tight?? I know I accidentally loosened it before. Double check every thing before you go ripping into it.

As for how to replace one, no clue. Never had to do it. If you don't have a haynes manual i'd pick one up. Should help.

I know i've got the belt routed right, for sure! Now the nut on the tensioner tight, i'm not really that sure what you mean. I try and turn it over and its easy to turn and it wont hold tension

you are probably going to have to buy a new one(about $35) and a haynes manual. it will be hard though cause the small space b/w the coolant res. and engine mounts

Remove the side engine mount and jack the engine up to get better access to it, shouldnt be too bad.
