help whole motor moves
Monday, September 05, 2005 4:12 PM
If anyone could help me out that would be great. first when I put the car in gear it's fine, but when I start pulling forward the whole engine/transmission jolts towards the rear of the car. I think that it may be the tranny mounts but am not for sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I miss driving my baby

Well I wouldnt replace them because you think its the problem. What if it turns out not to be, than you wasted time and money replacing good mounts.

Well depending on how much it moves it may be normal. Are we talking a couple inches or feet??

no it is most defitily not normal. I dought it is the trany mounts unless they are broke in half. I can't really say that it is the motor/trany or not. but what ever it is its pretty bad. I have put it on the lift at my work and I can't see anything broke or bent. when I am rolling and turn the wheels they make a kind of poping noise, I put it in gear and let off the clutch the hole front end shakes. my friends say that the wheels are moving back and forth (front to back of car) the motor runs fine and it goes into gear fine. when any torque is put to the ground it shakes and moves. I did put it in gear and gave it a little gas when the wheels were off the ground on the lift and again everything was fine.

one other thing. we put my freinds tein basics on his cavy this weekend. he had the extra stock struts so we threw those on my car to see if it had anything to do with my blown struts. but this didn't help at all.

Yeah that's not normal. Did you take apart the top mount yet or just check the bottom one?

I have checked both motor mounts and they seem ok. I have to wait till the weekend to check the trany mounts. could it have something to do with the axles?? I really don't know how to check them but that is what I am checking on next.

Well firebug, This is what I would do, If you got alot of play in youre tranny mounts, They are more likely to be worn out, Only way ot tell is to get the front end of youre car up on jack stands. get a screw driver or pry bar gently move the outter parts of the tranny mounts back and forth, Too see if you got alot of play in them. Note even check for cracks or broken pieces, If so replace them right a way. If youre car feels realy jerky its more and likely youre motor mounts or tranny mounts.

Good Luck on youre findings.
