Thermostat Gasket and O-ring?

Hey all... I did a search and didn't find anything. So here goes.

I have a 95 2.2 cavalier.

I noticed that I had a small coolant leak (above the headgasket) which was a good sign. I noticed that it was leaking around the thermostat housing. So I went to the local parts store and purchased a new thermostate and gasket. The parts guy told me that I also need the o-ring.

I have installed thermostats before, with the gasket, but never an o-ring.

Does anyone know where this o-ring goes? Although its a $2.00 part, I want to make sure that I cover all my bases.

Lefty.

Yeah, There's a gasket for the housing and the o-ring the stat sits on.

OKay... but where do you put the gasket for the housing. Is it where the thermostat is, or inbetween the housing and the head?

The black rubber o-ring with go around the edge of the thermostat, Then to attach the paper gasket to the outlet connector, tighten the bolts and upper rad hose then youre good to go.

when u take it apart you should see where it goes, you could probably use the old one anyways.

The rubber one is usually good, the paper gasket will tear and you'll need a new one. make sure you clean both surfaces good before you put the new one on.
