Sputtering Problem?
Saturday, September 10, 2005 7:54 AM
Hello. Sometims right after I start my car and I go to accelerate my car seems to sputter, almost like its not getting gas for a few seconds, and then usually runs fine after that. Any ideas on a possible problem? Thanks.

IAC (idle air control) valve? With a '96, could be a bunch o' buildup on it, causing a fouled mixture right after startup. Gunked open or shut, either way it needs cleaning.

do you know how long the fuel filter how long it has been since the fuel filter has been replaced? Did you get a psi test done on the fuel pump? Or any engine light on? Hows the coolant level?

Coolant level is good. My engne light come son occasionally(1 onvery 3 months), but turns off after a few days. I had a turn up done two years ago, not sure if they replaced the fuel filter or not. I'm gettin it inspected this month so I will ask them if they can find the problem.

Should change your fuel filter at least once a year. It could be a number of problem IAC, coil pack, plugs, may be your computer needs to be reflashed about the cold start problem. Mine kind of went away when i did the reflash on my car.
