O.K., was able to get the axles out of my 1996 Cavalier 2-door 2.2 standard trans, now I want to remove the end pieces that bolt on through the strut (so I can roll my car around the garage and not have something fall off, I'm told I should put the end back in the bearings as a precaution).
Is there a trick to get the splined end pieces off the axle? Can't see any clips or anything (although there's still a lot of grease all over, got the boots off). Tried hammering the ends to no avail (I am a weenie though, maybe I should have my wife try).
I'm tempted to torch the ends off the axles (don't have a cutting torch though), so will try one last time if anyone can offer me some advice.
Next, the motor and trans come out.

BTW, I will not need the axles to go back on the car, they will eventually go in the trash.
Regards.
