Alternator not charging

My alternator tests fine but I am not getting a charge. A friend of mine who works on Hondas says it might be my exciter signal. I'll be honest, I have no idea what that is nor how to test it and if it doesn't test, how to fix it. Thoughts?

It's a 2.2 BTW if that matters. 4 as the 8th digit in the VIN

How do you know it's not charging? How many miles on the car? How old is the battery? Has the alternator ever been replaced? If so, how many miles ago?

In my experience, it's either the alternator or the battery. AFAIK, neither are perfectly testable because you can easily measure voltage but not current. Either can put out the right voltage without putting out sufficient current.

If the battery is old, then it's likely the battery. If the battery is new, then it's likely the alternator.

You can try trickle-charging the battery to see if it holds a sufficient charge.

If it cranks well right after turning it off, but not the next day, then something could be draining the battery.
