Has anybody added an oil pressure gauge for on an Ecotec engine? If so where did you tap into an oil passage and how did you do it? I have the guage and a metric adapter kit but the GM service manual lists all oil passage plugs as a 12mm X 1.75 and there are not adapters this size. Is the manual wrong?
Thanks

look for the stock sender, get a t fitting and add both sensors...
should be close to the same on the 2.4 and on the 2.2,,,same idea, prob just different locations.
dont tap into passage plugs, you want pressure measured where the stock sensor measures pressure, not at some other insignificant part of the engine...
Easy enough but where can i find a 12mm x 1.75 to 1/8" NPT adapter? The 2.4 and 2.2 had 1/8 npt holes for the sensors...the eco has 12mm x 1.75 threads. I looked all over and cant find any.

more than likely the ecotec stock sender will use roughly the same threads... find the stock sender and check... you wont be tapping any oil passages, so that threaded oil passage isnt where you will be tapping in.... look for the oil pressure sender and check THOSE threads...
The stock sender threads are 12mm x 1.75 as well

. I sent an email to the gauge manufacturer, hoping to get a reply. I have sunpro gauges but I have learned that Autometer will be making an adapter for the eco soon. But if anyone knows where i can find one now id appreciate it. Thanks Event for the help.
So someone else has found my problem! The autometer adapter for the eco taps one of the passage plugs event refers to. To make this work properly you would need . .
1. [1] 1/4" NPT "T" fitting
2. [1] 1/8" NPT to 1/4" NPT (the adapter that came with the sender)
3. [1] M12 x 1.75 male to 1/4" NPT male fitting
4. [1] 1/4" NPT male to M12 x 1.75 female fitting
- Items 3 and 4 are a bit tough to come up with. The reason for using a 1/4" NPT "T" is that it is much closer in ID to the OEM sensor. (less constriction = better flow = more accuate readings) Jeremy told me when I first tried to figure this out some guy out of KC had done it but he made his own adapters. I dont have a tap set so I can not do that. I will have to see if pherps this person can be contacted to make the 2 adapters I need.
- The only other thing is that they do make NPT to AN fitting adapters so I was trying to find out the acutal AN thread sizes. I believe they are metric but I am not sure. If there is an AN fitting that has this thread then you could get the adapters from aeroquip. I beleive that the AN fittings are based on OD of the tubing so I am not sure if the AN fittings have Metric or their own thread sizes.
- Another long shot idea I had was to tap the signal wire to the OEM sender and connect it to the signal post on the back of the gague. I did not want to damage the gague or the vehicles systems so I have not tried this to see what happens. Maybe some knowledgeable person can tell me if this would work. Until then my oil pressure gague will just have to sit there and look like a backlit oil PSI gauge with no signal.

anyone anyone?
The closest thing I can find is that -6 AN is close to M12 × 1.5 not M12 × 1.75. I think I am gonna hook the signal up to the stock signal wire this weekend and see what happens. This is so hopeless. Autometer sells an adapter that is 1/8 NPT to M12 × 1! daymn. No M12 × 1.75 anywhere, everything from BSP 2 JIC 2 AN 2 Metric but no NPT 2 Metric.
Yep same problem ive been having trying too find an adapter for the Ecotec. So i kind of laid it aside and figure i wait till this issue comes up with more people. And you wont be able too tap into the stock switch wire because thats exacly what it is a switch. it only is an on off signal too the PCM saying pressure or not. If you did that your gauge would read either nothing or one siganl all the time and that would be 5v. Id say try a place that deals with plumbing or pipe fitting. Im lost in this problem too
I had the same prob. and ended up just machining my own fitting with 1/4 female thread on one side and a 12x 1.75 meter male thread on the other side. Another prob I ran into was finding a good place to put the sending unit, unfortunally you can't put it coming directly out of the block, due to the intake manifold, and you also don't want it too far away from the block, I'll try and take some pics tommarrow of how I solved this, (too difficult to explain), cause this will prob cause some probs for you guys as well...

Yeah I tried hookin it up to the stock sender this weekend - and when there was no pressure I had 100 psi on the gauge and when there was it was reading 0 psi.
Skinny could you possibly maching the fittings I need for me? If you can email me with what you would charge me for them (email on registry). Did you hook the stock sender back up 2 or just leave it with a pressure signal by grounding out the wire?
If I still had access to a machining lathe and drill press I'd make you one and send it to ya for 5 bucks, lol but unfortunatly my buddy who owned the lathe has since moved. You're best bet would be to go to a local machine shop and have them make one. Just bring them some 3/4 inch brass stock, (or whatever metal you want to use). I machined a it down to 13mm o.d. for about the first 3/8" on lathe then cut it down to 1" in length and drilled it out to 3/16" i.d. on a drill press. and finally taped the 3/16 " hole to a 1/4 pipe thread, and threaded the 13mm end to a 12 x 1.75 metric thread. Now keep in mind that this does not have any provisiond for using any wrench to tighten it so you'll just ahve to just something such as a vise grip to tighten this, although a machine shop should be able to solve that prob.... Also I am not using the stock sending unit at all, (the factory system doesn't trip a code or cause a check oil light untill pressure drops below 5 psi, so basically your s.o.l. by the time the light does come on..).

i have an oil pressure gauge installed on my eco.some freinds of mine work in a machine shop and made me a fitting.used a 12 x 1.75 bolt and drilled a hole straight down the center of it then tapped the head for 1/8th inch pipe thread so i could attached the sender.actually i had them make me 2 and have an extra one if someone is interested in buying it.
So am I correct that you all just grounded out the stock sender wire? ind02cav shoot me and email if your interested in letting that one go. Trublu333@yahoo.com
I just unplugged the stock sender unit and then replaced it with some brass fittings. I don't have any room for the stock sender unit anymore. Will this cause any problems if I just have the stock sender unplugged and taped off. Really all it does is read the oil pressure and lights up your dash oil light if oil pressure is low......correct????
I went and baught a piece of aluminum stock turned it down on one end tapped it and drillde a hole in the other end tapped it. Then i drilled a hole in the side and tapped it for my oil pressure gauge.

I've had this info. for a while. I posted somewhere on here before. Anyways.......
What you need is a 12 x 1.75 metric adapter. You can use the port on the drivers side end of the cylinder head. Due to clearance problems, you will need to remote mount the sending unit using a mechanical oil pressure line kit. When remote mounting, you will need to ground the body of the sender. I grounded it to the firewall.
Autometer has the adapter available through their Service Department . You may call 815-895-8141, choose the technical support option and ask for Cory or Bob in service and they can help. Really nice guys. Just let them know that you have an ecotec and they even can email you instructions.

Does anyone know if it matters if you get electrical or mechanical gauges?
Go with electrical gauges, you need the adapter either way but with electrical you dont need to run any oil lines to the inside of your car.

Just spoke with Cory from autometer and got everything I needed for the install thanks for the information.
lt1xlr8... why not post up the parts you need and the info you were given? that way everyone that wants to install a gauge doesn't have to call
Yes, pretty please with sugar on top post the info!

The adapter you have to call for regardless. Only available from the service department and it doesn't have a part number.
Sorry you have to use this ancient device called a telephone.

Not really sure what parts they are sending it was very inexpensive and they said they would email detailed instructions which I will put up after I get them. Your better off just calling them and being sure you get the right stuff.
