fan question

I have searched but found no answer,

Why would you want to override your cooling fan, so that you could either constantly run it or not run it, like the computer will automatically turn it on if your engine gets to hot, so why would you want to leave it on, which is what I'm assuming is the only reason you'd wanna override it. Like even if you race all the time so your engine always hot, the computer will always run the fan then right? So why override it?
Thanx.

Well, it depends on the thermostat temperature. For example, on the stock 3.1, the thermostat is set at 198, so no matter what happens, if you turn on the fan it will not drop the temp below 198 (maybe slightly lower, but not much). Now, the ECM does turn on the fan at 215, so from 198 too 215, you would be able too cool the motor down.

If you change the thermostat too say a 180, the computer will still only turn the fan on after 215, so that would make a difference.

Some people also run the fan too cool the engine while in the staging lanes.
