So I can pick up a 3800 WITH supercharger for 1200. Runs well, has 45,000 miles on it.
My questions are:
1. Since I'd have to get a subframe made, seeing as I don't have a welder, how much should I expect/did you get poped?
2. How far did you have to move the firewall back?
3. I take it my 4 speed auto Getrag tranny will NOT bolt up right?
4. Are these engines usually manual or auto transmission. I'd expect auto.
5. Given I put somenew higher compression pistons and a few other things in, should the actuall "off the line" feel be quit differnt. Did you get over 200 hp?
6. Say the supercharger decided to fail one day, will it prohibit any driveing what so ever? I'm not very informed on superchargers unfortunatly.
7. Do you think the price is right on the affore mentioned engine?
8. Will I have to get a new axle? I hope not, if so I'm probably out.
9. Where was your little guide raven
AND:
10. Can you find a prewired ECU/engine harness online? Or will my ECU work if flashed? How much for a flash? Have a layout for the rewire?
THanks for even a single question answered. I know this will be expensive, more than likely over the 5,500 I bought it for. But I'll try to get it under budget.
1. The place that Raven had his made can make them I believe.
2. I don't believe it has to be moved at all.
3. The 2.2 series transmissions will bolt up to the 3X00 engines
4. Auto, can't say I've seen a 3X00 manual transmission after 95
5. I think 240 is stock for the 3800 SC
6. Depends on how it fails really
7. Thats a pretty good price
8-9 Not sure
10. I don't believe there is one.

Buy stuff from CarCustoms Ebay! Won't be disappointed!
Well if I don't have to move the firewall that would ease my pain alot.
I don't think the price is bad.
Wow, i thought they were only like 200 horse. This makes me want to do it more!
Ok the auto's fine, and it saves me around 800 if my tranny bolts up.
The harness is going to be a serious b!tch, I can already tell.
Last thing: How big should the exhaust pipes be?
yeah, I'm the origional poster.
Umm I'm going to talk with a guy about the subframe tomorrow. Does anyone know where I can get the wiring diagrams for the 2001 2200 cavy, and the 3800 from any aplicable donors? Or you could just give me what you have down raven, if you recorded it.
i'm sure raven would be able to give you all the wiring information.
what i recommend doing that would work better than having to make a custom flywheel would be to use the 4spd auto from the 3800. it'll hold more power stock. you use the 3800 inner axles and joints, and cavy outer axles and wheel hubs, custom boots.
for exhaust, i recommend running 2.5" duals. LONG resonators, high flow cats, and some nice looking 3" tips. it'l look awesome on a jbody, sound quiet.

Would my 4 speed auto tranny be able to take the heat of the 3800? If I do manage to smoke it, I could get one from ebay or a local scrap yard, I'd like to try mine first and save a 1000 bucks to start off, Tranny will get changed down the road anyway. I would just like to do things in steps.
Yeah, I've been waiting for raven to show up
Also, would It be able to get that nice rumble with this V6? Recomend me a nice set up for that. Not rice, but not bust out your ear drums. I just want a nice rumble, that's always sexy to me
if you want a nice rumble, the forget the resonators and run Flowmaster 40 series mufflers. It'll sound like a mustang

Will it go ricer at 4-5000 rpms? If not, you have a good plan. Still 3 inch tips, 2.5 tubing?

no totally not at all. not with flowmasters. the 3" tips are just for a classy look that I think will be just as intimidating as the rumble. and yes 2.5" header back piping.

Ok then thanks, I'll have to favorite the flowmasters for when the time comes. Time to do some budget figuring! haha
How could I go about cutting the plastic that covers the actual metal of the bumper? I doubt a dremel would cut deep/well enough?

front or rear bumper cover? and why are you cutting it?

Rear, for the exhaust tips. not cutting deept, just a little half rectangle on the bottem of the cover.

better idea man. take a look at the rear bumber Shifted has. the Blitz rear bumper. Hell I have one in my garage, i want to get rid of. I don't know if it will work on your year, because mine is a 95. but imagine that bumper with ROUND 3" exhaust tips on the sides... i think that would just look mean as hell.

Kicking my square exhaust tips??!?! Lol. how dare you! anyway, ha, I'm stilling paying off a few things. if your going to have it for awhile and it fits my car, then we'll talk. But I'm really not interested if it's lower than stock, because I'm not to infactuated by the body kits and all that. I don't think my silver cavy looks any too bad, kinda sharp if you get past the negative baggage that usually comes with the name

Sorry I missed this post till now, to answer your questions...
1. I can get you the sub-frame and mounts, add me to msn and we can talk about price. As long as your car has not been hit in the front end before this will be a direct bolt on.
2. You don't have to move the firewall.
3. Your tranny will not work. I really recommend going with a 5-speed but it does increase the cost. If you want to stay with the auto from the 3800 keep it under the 300whp mark, they tend to blow up right around there.
4. Most of them came in auto with the exception of a few cars throughout the years.
5. lol...thats pretty funny and if you do go ahead and do this swap you will know what I mean by that.
6. You can drive the car just fine with no supercharger. The snount went on me last year and I had to drive around for about 2 weeks with no boost till the new parts showed up.
7. If it is the L67 (supercharged 3800) then yeah that is a really good deal. Remember though you need every accessory, the wiring harness, PCM, brackets, and throtle cable as well.
8. If you use the auto you will have to rebuild your current axles. If you go with a 5-speed you will need the 5-speed axles, shifter cables with assembly.
9. Don't think I ever did up a step by step guide. I have lots of pics on my cardomain site and I did have a huge post here a few years back when we first did it, try searching for that.
10. Your PCM and wiring will not work. You will need to have a custom wiring harness made at the least if you stay with an auto. If you want to go with a 5-speed the PCM will have to be reprogrammed. I can get you both the harness and do the reprogram on the PCM if you want to go that route. Again get ahold of me on MSN sometime and we can discuss price.

you have premade subframes? do you have pics? and what is the price?
HP Tuners | Garrett T3/T04B | 2.5" Charge Pipes | 2.5" Downpipe | 650 Injectors | HO Manifold | Addco front/rear | Motor Mounts | HKS SSQV | Spec stage 3 | AEM UEGO Wideband | Team Green LSD | FMIC | 2.3 cams | 2.3 oil pump swap | 280WHP | Now ECOTECED
This by FAR not a cheap modification to do to your car, I am neck deep in mine and my engine should be in the car beginning of next month and running by late fall/early winter.
Please do ALOT of research and if at all possible, purchase the subframe and mounts from Brad/James, this would be a lifesaver, I personally am only purchasing the mounts, I am still doing the subframe very similar to what James has, just alittle different rad support piece (no bickering James, this is my car! haha)
All in all, save your bucks, you will need it.

For 5..... The Series II engine will have 240hp. If it's the Series III it has a bit better blower, and will have 260hp. I dont think you want to go and put higher compression pistons in a boosted motor. Instead what you'll want to do is get smaller pullies for the blower. That will give you more boost, and more power.
6) I had this happen last week. The idler pulley bearing tied up and the thing gave out and shot the pulley out of the car somewheres. So the S/C belt fell off, and I had no boost. The car will drive just fine with the blower not working. Thats considering that you're just driving the car, if you're getting on it you'll notice a huge power loss. Especially once the RPM gets up so high. What that would feel like in a J-body I have no idea. I just know that in the W-body car, its annoying at how much the engine relies on that blower sometimes.

Not too sure why you posted that other than to show that the 3400 is possible. Really there is not too much in common between the two swaps at all.
