Smokin' Pacesetter Header!
Wednesday, June 01, 2005 9:21 AM
I just called the shop to see if my header and hi-flo cat is in. He said that ther is smoke coming outta the engine bay and this happens with all headers. Is this like an oily coating they put on/inside it that will eventually burn off, I got the ceramic coated header from PFYC.

I remember my Dynomax muffler had a coating when new & made a burning smell for a while but it didn't smoke, the smell eventually went away.

Also, they didn't use a flew pipe, I've been told that one isn't neccesary with the Pacesetter header, is this true?

I got a CAI to the blower, hi flo cat and PS header all in one shot, I hope this all works out.

they might have had greasy hands and lef that on the header

the header has a ball and socket flex joint , if you dont already , its best to use the motor mounts also , that goes with any header

no worries. it'll smoke for a few minutes after the install but it should be fine for the rest of the life of your car unless you spill stuff all over it.

Ok thanks guys...WHEW!

One other quick Q, I think he may have used the included gasket but I've done a few searches and some people talk about using the stock gasket. Is the one PS includes crap?

The header is on, I'd hate to have it yanked off, should I request my stock gasket back just in case?

those gaskets they send you ARE crap. just go to an auto parts store and get a brand new felpro gasket ($11 US) and install that.

i wouldnt mess with it unless it starts leaking on you... one thing i do recomend though, if you dont have them already, get the upper and lower motor mounts........the stock manifold is equipped with a flex flange and the header is not. you get tourque rock in your motor and its not good on the header flange welds.....i learned that the hard way and ended up cracking the flange where the primary tubes are welded to it... good luck.

i have solid mounts and no problems with my header or b pipe knocking against anything.

Did it start leaking on you eventually?

sorry to thread jack but 97cavie24ls(JDM cav sedan™)-do you think i'd be able to get away with only using the top mount insert with a pacesetter header? or should i use both the upper and lower mounts? thanks...

I believe the bottom mount does a lot more as far as holding the engine still... at least that's how it was on my '99 Z.

yeah best is to use both

allthough 1 will help , more than nothing will

even the stock flex joint is know to give out due to the amount of flex in the mounts in our cars

and alot of people do not have problems with the supplied gaskets , all of the problem is related to the install or the period just after the install

you need to check the bolts and nuts to make sure they are tight after the first cool down , and every day or 2 after untill they all stay tight

most will reuse the stock gasket becuase its a metal gasket , and is made from stainless , the older header with the O-ring weld on the flange for gasket sealing is best used with the gasket we supply , cause of the differences in port shapes on some of the headers

the new flages are flat and you can pretty much use any style gasket with them

I just used my stock gasket. It is metal, so it wasn't like taking off the stock manifold destroyed it. As far as I can tell, it is not leaking--it's sealed up fine.

Well she's on and running and no more smokey and smell. I also added a hi flow cat and a CAI to the supercharger. The only thing is I have some clanging from underneath, I think its the heat shield so I brought it back to the shop this morning.

The CAI from the blower makes a real nice difference with the header and hi flo cat. Not much louder as I thought it would be, which to me, is good.

I did notice it does kinda "burble" a bit when I let off the throttle, is this normal or do I have a leak? I assume with the increased flow its causing a bit of a burble. I don't mind it, I just wanna be sure everything is buttoned up. Thanks.

My ps gasket blew out on me. Put the stock one back in and no problems.
