some questions about flywheels
Tuesday, May 31, 2005 10:57 PM
I'm putting a new clutch in my 2200, i've already picked up a spec stage 1 clutch and tranny mounts, i figure i'm either gonna have to pull all of the car apart and let it sit while i have my factory flywheel resurfaced, or order a lightweight one...I've found some good prices on different ones, i'm looking at the fidanza but i remember hearing some fitment issues with them, or a spec flywheel..... does anyone have any experience with either of these? will they cause any problems with the spec stage 1 thats going in the car? thanks in advance

I have specflywheel and stage 3 clutch. Absolutely love it. Not sure of the weight of the findaza (think its 9-11lbs) but the spec is about 7 lbs. IF you got the money, get the flywheel too. ITs a good investment, plus you'll only be a couple of bolts away when you rip everything apart to replace your clutch. Good luck.

Doesn't it take some getting used to with driving with a lighter flywheel? Someone said that it's uber easy to stall out a car with a lightened flywheel, but maybe he was just BSing me... I unno.

the lightened fly wheel allows you to rev faster and for the revs to drop faster cos the engine is spinning something thats less then half the weight of what was on there as before. As far as stalling out, you might at first when you get used to it especially if you get a different clutch put in as well. You just have to relearn it. I've noticed a slight increase in pick up as well.

Ya, if you think about the fact that a flywheel is designed to keep the car running, its sole purpose is to add mass to the crank so that it has something to carry it thru compression strokes and dead spots before the cylinders fire, the factory ones are what 30 pounds? the aftermarket ones are super light, so the engine doesnt have that weight to drag it along, or to slow it down, so yes it is easier to stall a lightweight flywheel, there is less rotational mass in the engine, but the trade off is well worth it because its supposed to really wake up the car. My concern was that it would make my car impractical for daily use in traffic, but i went ahead and bit the bullet so to speak, i just bought a fidanza one from ultrarev.com good price and good shipping, lets see how it goes with shipping times.

yeah wish i could be talking with you guys about these flywheels. i ordered a fidanza from highrevmotorsports about two months ago, was billed for it on my credit card and never recieved it. 320 dollars down the drain, i emailed numerous times, called and no one answers....i just cant believe it happend. i dont recomend ANYONE ordering from this company. i order a fuel pressure regulator along with the flywheel and it took a month to get here. just a little pissed that i didnt get the fly wheel. called RSM and supposedly the guy that owns the company is opening a new shop and is really busy.....i am just a little tourqued... im sure no one would like losing over 300 dollars like that and not getting their flywheel right......if anyone knows how i might be able to get ahold of this guy, let me know... im gunna rip him a new one.
