PULLEY KITS ?
Wednesday, June 01, 2005 10:07 AM
Hey everybody it's me again i have a question which pulley kit is the best. I found that Cavalier Connections, Manta , and RSM have them expect that RSM only has the crank pulley. Manta kit comes with the belt and C.C. just comes with the pulleys. I was wondering if any in the org has the pulleys on their cavalier and is there any rough idling. I have a 2002 2.2/2200 with auto. please help.

the best crank pulley you can get is one that is the stock size and lightweight. I belive RSM's is 12 oz. I prefer to stay away from the alternator pullies because they slow it down. Just the crank pulley will give you a bit more topend power and your car will rev up quicker.

if the crank pulley is stock-sized and just lighter then yes you can use the same belt. The RK Sport crank pulley i have is smaller than stock size so I had to get a belt 2" shorter than stock length.

I like my pulley a lot. I've never installed any of the other pullies, but it pulls harder in the mid-high RPM range and it revs up quicker. the only draw back is that your accessories won't be working as hard so for example, at idle, your headlights will dim out a lil bit, and then upon accelleration, they get brigher. but it's going to do that with any underdrive pulley.

what about the other pulleys like RSM how are they. and how dose your car idle cause i heard that something times it revs down almost like it want to die but i'am not sure which one it was. but hey thank for all the info so which one would you recommend for my car RK Sport or RSM since you said that i should stay away from the alternator pullies since it slows it down.

i don't have any problems with idle. now my car has always idled at around 600 or 800 for a second after revving it, but that never changed when I did the pulley.

Well...think of it 2 ways. Both are good companies with good products so you don't have to worry about that. The Rk Sport Pulley (which I have) is an under drive lightweight pulley. What it does is take power away from other accessories like a/c etc etc (not allot to really worry about unless you have a stereo system) and will actually gain you a few ponies AND rev up faster because it's lighter. The RSM pulley is just lightweight and will just rev up faster. It's really up to you. Good luck with your decision...

if you are talking about Parish's blue Silverado or whatever... no, he is from Omaha but yes I have met him when the Omaha guys have come down to KC a few times. I saw him shatter his downpipe at a spot down here.

Just so you guys know the Manta set comes with a smaller alt and crank pulley, the alt will be spinning the same speed as stock so you wont have the dimming lights and draining battery at idle. And if you worried about water pump steering pump and AC spinning slower at idle (I would only be worried if idling for long periods) you can just throw it in neutral and tap the gas or hold the revs up a little they will all spin faster. I've had the manta set for at least 20000 mi. and still no worries. Oh, and order COD from them if you do or you could be waiting a while.

see the thing is that i do have a system in my car. i have 2-12's and a 1000watt amp and a Cd player. so how much will that affect my car and would i lose any performance from the pulley cause of the system. oh man that truck is the s@@t that truck there got my hooked on turbo and ever seen then i have been trying to fix up my lil cavy.

I'm running a 2000w 1 channel and a 500w 4 channel with no probs so... well I also have a 2 farad cap that probably helps a lil too. I would probably be worried if i had the smaller crank pulley without the smaller alt pulley tho.

Alternator pulleys that are larger than stock (AEM, RSM) will spin the alternator slower, which could be potentially bad for batteries that are running systems, and especially on cars with automatic trannys (cause they idle a few hundred rpm slower).
Alt pulleys that are smaller than stock (Mantapart) will spin the alt faster which is good if you are going to run a smaller crank pulley (which slows the whole belt down).
