what tps to use with 56mm tb & ho manifold
Monday, June 06, 2005 6:24 PM
ok, my car is running like ass since the ho manifold and 56 mm tb was put on. I have narrowed the problem down to the tps sensor. I went to advanced to get a new one and we tried everything I could think of but none of the tps sensors that we found were compatable. They have the same bolt pattern but the ring thats just uinside the bolt pattern is too wide to fit. I have no idea what car this throttle body is off of. And I can't figure out how to mount the one off my 2.4 throttle body on it. And even if I could, which I have it taped on it right now. It throws a code saying that "tps/pedal position sensor A circuit low input. What the hell does that mean? I am so damn fed up! I gotta go do my homework...... if anyone has any answers.... I would love them for the rest of my life! Also, I looked up tps from 90-94 beretta gtz, and pontiac grand ams. Those were the ones which the rings were too wide. thanks

The one piced in that link is the standard issue tps for most of the HO/LO tbs.
But dang $25 for something that can be gotten at a junkyard bia 5 finger discount.

If you still have your 2.4L tb you can use it.
Face it the same way with all the sensors pointing up.
Just have to block off the fpr input with a grommet or something.

But if you used your stock tps, and you follow the directions from NY Jbodies ; how far did you drill? Didn't have to go too deep.

I've tryed all those variations of the tps and they all worked when I had the HO swap.

Check out CLICK ME!!! for the drill holes to mount the 2.4L tps.
And get a sheet metal screw. As long as its secure.

I can't figure out how the hell the 2.4 tps is supposed to mount on this thing. And what I am sayin is that the tps, the tps in the link is the one that I bought and it doesn't fit....

OOoo,m
Well if the factory 2.3 tps isn't fitting on the the 56mm tb then something is physically wrong with that section of the tb.

Can you post a pic?

And for reference,

The 56mm TB I have is late 93-94 so all the sensors are exact same as the 2.4L sensors.
Olders 56mm factory TBs have the one pictured in the link.

So if you cant get either to fit on there correctly, its possible the tb lever isn't adjusted correctly.

I've been told to just use the sensors on my 2.3L's TB

the TPS on mine is the L shaped one. and the connection slot for the IAC faces the runners, I've seen them go both ways.

I'll have to try mine out and see what happens...

try posting a picture of the TB, im sure one of us can figure out what year it is, then you can go and buy the right TPS for it.

Just one ????..... where did you run the vac. line that comes up from the a/c (evap purge)? In the write up it says to go to the manifold, that was an error on my part, it should go to the top port on the t/b.

I had to use the 2.4 tps on the first couple swaps I did, but that could have been that the 2.3 ones where just bad (they gave different readings then my 2.4 ones)...... a few other people have had no problems using the stock 2.3 sensors.

Ok, I think I figured out the issue, well part of it anyway. First, my tps sensor from my 2.4 is shot, giving me huge issues. Second, I took my 52mm and my 56mm tb and combined them so that I wouldn't have to get a new throttle cable bracket. What I didn't realize is that the end that goes into the tps sensor is positioned differently. So I went to a junk yard and all I could find was an lo grand am. So I snagged the tb and bracket off that. Is the lo tb worth a dime? What size is it? Thanks guys

Aything to get you running is worth it.
I'm sure the TB is cheap enough, so go ahead and get it.

If you can even, find another 2.4L tb.

But the LO is 56mm from what i can remember.
