Best of everything?
Wednesday, June 15, 2005 12:24 PM
Hey guy's whats going on. I have a 2004 Cavy LS 4 door and i am looking to do huge stuff to my car this summer due to me actually having a job and money to support doing stuff to my car. I am wondering what would be the best products to get as far as an intake, headers, and exhaust to get.. My buddy just got an exhaust made for him at a shop so i think i might get that in dual but if there is anyone with better ideas for exhaust as well as the intake and headers, please let me know what the best thing for each. I would also like to know where i could get a high flow cat, i looked on rksport and it says that the one that i would like to get will not fit my ECO so idk. But if someone could please help me i would very much appreciate it. thanks. also, i am sorry if this is a repost i am just trying to pull this all together.

Like stated above, I don't know about the best, but I would recommend an AEM Cold Air Intake.

As far as a header I think your choices are:

Pacesetter.... Cheapest and I haven't heard anything negative 4-1
RK Sport....I think some people had fitment issues with these 4-2-1
Weapon R....Same design as RK's, but fits better4-2-1
DC Sports...Most expensive not too many poeple have these yet, cuz they just came out.
(And I heard, not sure, that the DC header doesn't even come with a downpipe.) ^4-2-1

I am getting my high flow cat from Gravana Tuning. and Yes the magneflow hi-flow cat fits.

If you search around you will find ALOT of information.

I hope that helps a bit.

^^^^ the weapon R is 4-1 not 4-2-1

Weapon-R ECOTEC Header is 4-1? Wow, I thought it was 4-2-1. I must've heard incorrectly then.

You heard correctly, it does not come with a down pipe.

Here's how it works. Don't listen to anyone on this site unless they actually have the parts/have done the work. Very few people know what they're talking about and they all think they do. As you can see you have everyone thinking something and the opposite is true.

Take for example me doing an 03 conversion on my 97 cavalier. I had alot of people tell me most of the parts would bolt right up. No. The only things that bolted up without modification were the hood hinges and the headlight housings. Everything else I had to modify. And you can't say they were crap aftermarket parts because they were all off of 03 cavaliers.

Moral of the story. Go to the company's websites and check out the info for yourself. And from that information, you decide what is best for what you want. Only then will you know for sure.

Good luck with all your modding.

I found a picture of the Weapon-R Header for the ECOTEC and it looks like it is a 4-2-1 to me, heres the picture:

Anyways, before this thread gets jacked or anything, like everyone else has said, every part has its up's and down's so just do your research before you go buy something.

it is , i have it, the pacesetter is a 4-1

Intake - Weapon R or RK sport, or get the RSM TB and intake combo, cold air is a gimmick and the aem is 50 bucks more

Header - Pacesetter or Weapon R the rest are overpriced and wont do any better

Crank Pulley - Light and still not underdrive the RSM Racing

Upper Mount - The RK sport is a beast

Lower Mount - RK or RSM not much difference here

Flywheels - spec or fidanza , RK is crap

Throttle Body - To my knowledge RSM is the only one out there with it

Heads - Patriot or RSM both are good flowing

High Flow Cats - Magnaflow pretty much anything else is crap

I have an OBX header on my car, same design as the pasesetter. Installation was difficult because my OEM downpipe wouldnt unbolt. I am very happy with the performance increase. I used a magnaflow high flow cat with it as well. Very pleased with the mid to high rpm gain

if i were you i would save up your money go for a turbo kit or a supercharger kit. RSM makes a great supercharger kit from what i heard and hahn makes a good turbo kit. your lookin to make the fastest 4 door you said then go forced induction.

here is what i have

Intake: Injen it is a Warm Air. and like Rodimus said the cold air intakes are a gimmick. people see "Cold Air" and automatically thinks its better. in theroy it is but in reality its not.

Header: pacesetter ceramic coated

cat: carsound cat made by magnaflow

engine mounts: the ones from carcustoms. they are all the same.

exhaust: Thermal exhaust system. its overpriced it was an impluse buy at the time. but im happy with it pretty much

far as your TB goes, you can have your stock one bored out for a lot cheaper than what you would pay on any othersite

If you're gonna make one of the fastest sedans you're gonna need boost. If you're gonna boost you need bigger than 2.5" exhaust. If you're gonna boost don't bother gettin the intake either. Just some things to think about.
