Help for 96 2.4s......

So you have a '96 2.4, and you want to get around that damn EGR.........

I have an option for you.

Dk Gry 32 Pin Female
Push-to-Seat

LT1 and Vortec ECM's
Plus several others
Includes colored retainer
listed below.

$24.50
Opening for wires Left/Right (From back of conn.)
Retainer Color (Black,Blue,Clear,Red)

Order up 2 of these, pick up a 95 ECM, and swap the pins. At least it will make you OBD-1, and Chip-able..... I have the 96 and 95 pin-outs saved on my computer. (small change to the Injection harness might be needed (switch from MFI to batch fire))

Delco Connectors

anyway, just something I came across, and thought it might help out somone.

Or possibly switch to 97-99 ECM's????

Fits GM vehicle ECM's
of various vehicles and
various years.
Only stock red and blue retainers.
$54.50 (each)

I also have the pin-outs for the 99 ECM....... making it a pretty easy swap. (if these connectors work on those computers, which it looks like it will)

I would say the switch to 97-99 would be a better idea as it is illegal in alot of states to mess with emissions control devices like here in PA, obd2 to obd2 is ok but not going to something older

What do you mean switch to a 97-99 ECU? It is still EGR.

so that would be plug and play for switching to 95 OBD1 ECM??????

that would be awesome!

You pull the pins out of your connector, and plug them into this connector....... or if you get one with a pig-tail harness (like second pic) you either cut off your connectors, and butt-connect them together, or you SPLICE into your harness..... (lets you have the 96 plugs, and 97+ plugs)

Soilder, and heat shrink is a must to keep out salt and water......

As usual very interesting and useful info. Brian do you think that this connector adapter can let 96+ OBDII cars uses 95 OBDI ecus? could be a OBDII to OBDI adapter like some Honda's ECU trick that I have seen.

Of course could exist other issues due to ecu programming differences.

Anyway great info.

i dont think it would be that bad if u are good at following pin outs. it would be time consuming though.

So the 96 ECU, is different than the 97-99?
the Reaper is a 96, and the ECU appears the same from just glancing at it.
Good info.

'95 has (2) 32pin plugs (OBD1)
'96 has (3) 32pin plugs (OBD2)
'97+ uses (2) 80pin plugs (OBD2)

and im guessing that the 96 z-24 has gotten swaped to a OBD-I ECM and chiped out to a W-41 with some burn on it for timing retard?

if all this is posable. i wounder if somthing like that could be used to make that damn 3800 work in the 94....

nice info...

There's no "magic" in this connector. It's just a connector. You still have to overcome issues like the ipc and airbag modules not talking to the later pcm, and the fuel tank sending unit resistance being different (for some years). Nothing changes in terms of sensor and module compatibility just because the pin locations are moved for a different pcm.

I've got the pin locations for various year/ engine J cars on an Excel spreadsheet. Glad to forward if needed.

never said there was any "magic" in these connectors.......... but thanks for trying to be an ass.

As of yet, I have yet to run into a problem in compatability from 95-98....... or from 97-99...... Yes, 00+ things like the Fuel Level sender are different...... and ABS/Air Bag systems..... I guess when someone runs into a problem, we'll work around it, just like we worked around the EGR...... and how Nick (changeforabutton) got the 00+ pcm/bcm to work on his '98.

why would anyone need them, since this is just a waste of time?

NY-Jbodies should have all the info you need for those pin-outs.
