2004 Cavalier
B&M Shift Plus Electronic:
Has anyone used one of these?
Do they work?
Are they worth the time and effort?
I am an idiot...
I found my topic in TRANSMISSION forums, who would of thought (<>,,<>

Whah...Whah...Whah...
Yeah this should be in the transmission forum but to answer your question, yes the B&M Shiftplus is very good, I have it on ym 03 Cav and I love it. There is definetly a difference, the only thing I would suggest you do is follow B&M's advice and not constantly drive on setting 2 because it will practically demolish your transmission over time. I use it mainly for my Autocross sessions because it helps with my accelration but you could also use it for drag racing i'm sure. Ask around some more and you should get some more if not better answers than mine, also take a look at the Autotrans Interceptor, may be worth a look.

Yeah tell me about it. I've thought about it and put the prices together and it's not really worth me spending thousands of dollars to swap it over when I can spend less amount of money to build my auto up.

How much would it cost anyways?
especially when you should have bought a manual if you wanted a manual.
i walked out of two chevy dealership when they said they didn't have any stick cavaliers except for the special value package. they offered to order one, but my reasoning is; you don't have what i want, why would i have you take stock from another dealer that caters to performance driving? i'll just go there myself and give them my business since their line of thinking is on track with mine.
i'll also most likely not buy another automatic car for a long time, stick driving is so much more fun.

Well some people on here got their car very cheap, was given a car to drive or didn't even know how to drive a manual car (like myself). If I knew how to drive a stick, I would have bought one at that time.

Well, a transmission from a junk yard will cost around $600-800 + X amount of dollars for all the neccessary parts to convert it, building it up with a flywheel, clutch & short shifter will be around $600-700 maybe and then some outrageous price to install it if your not doing it yourself.
Too much money for me...

Its a good buy, I have it and it works good, i havent tryed it on the track yet to see any improve ment, but its a good buy for 35 bucks

bah!

before i bought my stick i had a total of 30 mins previous experiance stretched out over the last 6 years. the first couple weeks were a little shaky but i understood the basic concept and that's really all you need--the rest comes with driving experiance. the only one major problem i see with being a new stick driver: driving in the snow with a manual is a totally different ball of wax, but once you learn how it's different you get so much better control over the car. i can work this car as well as my monte carlo that had traction control.
the thing i think happens more often then not is they (car buyers) ask at the dealer if there are any sticks, the dealer says no so the person stratches that one off their list and buys an auto instead--i know a few who did that. a used car i can understand, you really can't argue options. but on a car that i'm paying a couple hundred a month for better damn have what i want on it.
yes i am picky, and i'll admit a major a--hole.

Well the thing is, when I bought my car, I wasn't TOTALLY into cars and VERY new into car modifying and basically wasn't trying to learn to drive stick.

that's cool, that is just personal preference. just making my point.

there's no need to defend yourself here, if your car is exactly what you wanted then w00t! that was my underlying point.

looking at your profile you've made your car your own, good job on it. i'm just starting that process myself--only had it 5 months.
