Where to next

Hey there guys wondering if anyone has some thought about where to go next with my car. At this time I have a 98 2200 with ( warm air intake, short ram, cool air) whatever ya guys wanna call it. The head is being ported and polished as we speak as well as a 3 angle grind valve job and resurfacing. A new felpro top end gasket set. I need a new exhaust and posted about that earlier but to review probably going with pacesetter 4.2.1 header with 2.25 custom pipe to highflow cat to custom pipe and resinator to muffler. One question is if I have a resinator do i need a regular muffler? or just pipe and tip? I plan on using the longest resinator I can find maybe two. Any input on that? Also its the 5 speed isuzu tranny I am guessing. How hard is it to get to the bottom engine mount i havent seen much info on this and havent checked the Chiltons lol. What other suggestions do you guys have short of boosting. I dont have a ton of money but wanna do this stuff while its apart no reason to put it all back together just to tear it apart agian. I can get a motor for like 130 bucks at a local salvage yard so i may start watching for an ecotec for a project.

you dont need a muffler. but a muffler plays into how the exhaust sounds. along with everything else. i would say stick a muffler on along with everything else you got

i think the longest one used on our cars is 30 inches. id say go with at least 20 inchs

here click on that. youd want number 5 under all Jbody Applictaions

other options? you can go all motor. Crane Cams has a 1.6 ratio roller rocker kit you can get from Howell Automotive, cam from JBP. You can go with nitrous. Or you can just boooooooooooost!

Wanna go boost when i get the money.... i was reading someplace that the 98 already has roller rockers on that model to hell if i can remember what site now but i heard it already has that..... sorry about that.... thought about new vavle springs will that get me anything? sorry thats the noob in me... i dont think of springs as a performace as far as hp but what about throttle responce and or gas mileage? how hard is it to do a cam swap on this motor.... can it be done with the wheel and wheel well liner out or is it a tear the motor outta the car kinda thing? any input would be great

i don't believe the 2200s have roller rockers but i could be wrong. even if they do, they are still a 1.52 ratio and 1.6 ratio is an improvement in valve lift. i'm at about a .460 valve lift on my car. cam swap is a bitch of course because it's not SOHC or DOHC... the cam is in the block like old school small block and big block chevies. you just gotta get the motor out and tear it apart.

A couple things. If your going to do that headwork, you might as well upgrade your cam. Check out www.jbodyperformance.com for more info on it.

I would say yes, get a muffler...just because you have a resonator doesn't mean it will muffler all the sound down. Having no muffler will help in performance all motor, nor helping in sound, nor helping with inspection.

By the way, I don't think Pacesetter makes a 4-2-1 style header, I believe all the companies that make it for the 2.2 OHV makes a 4-1 style header (I could be wrong).

resonator = glasspack. same damn thing. the point of adding a resonator to your exhaust system with an existing muffler is to quiet and tone down the pitch.
