hey guys and galz.

CAI,WAI, or short ram? Open to suggestions too.

Any help would be much appreachated
. "ANd this is my dailyvdriver, so I can't mess things up" pleaser take this into consideration when suggesting something.
This car will never see the track or race EVER.

haha

To answer his question..."cold air" isn't that much benefit over a short ram intake...not really worth the extra money. If you want a decent one, check out www.definedparts.com for Weapon-R intakes.

Agreed.

WAI is the best way to go.

CAI is dumb ,cuz your not getting "cold" air, your still getting the nice hot air off the pavement.

And the only true short-ram is if you got a hood scoop.

But a lot of ppl confue short ram with WAI.

WAI is jsut inside the engine. Probably what you want. Easy to install, doesnt invovle destroying anything. I got mine for $35 at AutoZone, jsut the generic one, works perfect.

my cai setup cost me a total of $180, i bought my Injen short ram for $125 and another $45 or so for the Civic short ram i picked up at AutoZone. 3 minutes with a hacksaw, 10 minutes screwing around with the boot trying to angle it perfect, plug IAT gromet back in, sensor back in, hose clams and BAM!

wtf neo, the air near the pavement is still much colder than the air in your engine bay, the only down sides to a cai is the price unless if you go ebay style, installation can be somewhat difficult on some cars, and water can easily get in the intake. But aem makes the bypass valve to take care of that issue.

Ummm i disagree. I had a Vibrant warm air intake that i used on my car....and it was pretty decent. Then I bought the Induction Dynamics Cold Air Intake and i must say i wasn't expecting much of a power increase besides just added looks.

But as soon as i started driving it i was amazed that i could actually feel a difference over the Vibrant intake. A big difference over stock! mostly in throttle responce and rolling take offs.

But it all depends on ur budget. I say go CAI but its up to you this is just my .02 on the 2200

If the pavement temp. is anywhere near the engine bay temp. then i think were all in trouble. Why do you think people put intercoolers in teh front....its cause it gets the coolest air posslbe. But think about it. Whatever the pavement temp is. your car is moving so there fore cools the air down even more.......Its a big difference then ur engine bay.

a supercharger is the best short ram intake you can possibly get. 70 horsepower from an intake... whooooo

thats not the only downside...

pavement temps can be upwards of 144 degrees plus, not to mention, the air you get outside of a car, you will get inside a cars engine bay... yes i;ve already installed air temp sensors from nordskog in the intake and have a thermometer inside my engine bay right now.

in case anyone here hasnt noticed cavaliers are not exactly aerodynamically designed, nor sunfires. air circulates up under the hood when in motion. anything you get outside, you get inside.

the main advantage of a long ram intake (not the BS term COLD AIR most people fall for) is the fact that you have more pipe to create resonance.

and savvy cavvy, there are cars with intercoolers on top of the engine bay, sitting right on top of a hot engine....... WRX, some intercoolers are on the rear of the car ...MR2;s...

intercoolers simply need direct air so that it can flow through. and also compressed air from a turbo is a decent amount hotter than reg air, so you are using relatively cooler air even if it. NOT COLD AIR.

air is only cold if its with a cryo2 kit, winter time, or you put a fridge in your car.

as it stands if you look in your engine bay, the filter for any short ram intake is behind the battery. where there is a hole also back there from the intake resonator.

air flows up through there, under the hood as well, to a short ram intake.

and if "cold air intakes" were soo much better, race teams such as the real time RSX's and integras wouldnt have short ram intakes. neither would the mazda 6's in scca pro race teams...

theres alot of marketing gimmicks in the tuner world that exist merely cause people dont think before they buy.

some long rams out perform short rams, some short rams out perform long rams. but you better believe air temp IS NOT the only factor. but then again people hear COLD AIR and dont bother to put any thought to things, cause because the filter is outside the engine bay... the air MUST be cold. wrong. by far.

As Event said, the air inside our engine bays circulates quite well while in motion.

Now... If you stop your car, open your hood, and put your hand in there, of coarse it will be hot, cuz you're not moving.

When moving at 30 mph+ there is enough air moving inside the engine bay that you're not sucking up outragiously hot air. The air even circulates a lot better then you think it would behind the battery (which is were most WAI go in our cars).

Also you get the extra one or two bends in your Cool air which slows down air flow, sorry if that was already said.

^^ It has been said but good to reiterate.

You will get the most perfomrance increase out of the shortest, straightest intake you can get.
