CAt Back Exhaust

Looking at few options , but trying to get a consenses for what people use. I hear Borla users talk and Magnaflo, Is it better to go with either of these or get a local to bend up some 2.5 pipe run that. I now have Magnaflo on my car but may swap it for better setup what you guys and gals think?

well there really ins't a best ya know that...but what i recommend if your going to stay N/A get 2 1/4" piping from the cat back and pick up a muffler that you want and also a resonator and that would be a great cat back plus it is tons cheaper than buying one...if your going to go with forced induction get 2.5" piping from the cat back...its all according to what you have planned ofr your car.

if he's pushing 250hp N/A i would say get 2.5 custom bent with mandrel

One thing I'm confussed on. Do you have Magnaflow cat-back exhuast on now or just a muffler?

I think you mean muffler...if so, it would be to your liking to make your own so you get the sound your looking for. I'd say exactly Michael Lilly said, mendral bend the piping, keep your magnaflow muffler, get a magnaflow catalytic converter and get a nice sized resonator.

Also, stay 2 1/4" unless your planning to boost in the near future, than do 2 1/2" piping.

Well what I have now is a The Magnaflo system from CAt all the way back 2.25 Pipe. But seems like I could get more if I went with 2.5 Pipe. 250 HP I was thinking that Bigger is always better. But MY Magna do dsound good. I was just wondering what Most here ran , Trying to get ideas for this new Project I got going.

Being all motor, stay 2 1/4"...no need to change anything that doesn't need to be fixed.

I asked that exact question., He stated he uses Compression bend pipe. Not mandral for sure but close enough. I had the samething done on MY T-BIrd SC, It looked good, But this should be a big increase in flow. Sound shou7ld be good too, He said he would let me hear other Resonators on J bodys he has done. Appearantly he recorded the sound LMAO. Guy knows what to do thats for sure. I will keep yall Posted on this. Going from a 2.25 Magnaflo to this will be interesting to say the least. May not do a thing But could be another increase. Will just have to see.

Trust me, if your going N/A your better off with 2 1/4" piping and you should really only get mendral bent piping. If you can get someone to custom make you one, buy one.

If you plan on boosting soon (or doing alot of motor work) get 2 1/2" piping.

i feel off here but how much more is a lot of motor work when he is already spitting out 250hp, what is considered a well built NA 2.4?

Re: CAt Back Exhaust

NJ, I do have a lot of Motor work Done, It currently is at About 250HP N/A, The plan is to Turbo it sooner or later, Waiting to see how all the rest comes out, I have not really even broke the engine in yet, But dont you think with all the MOds got so far that 2.5 pipe will work, And you can buy Pipe already bent for my ride? If your talking about the stuff like Summit has I thought about that But I dont have access to any type of Real quaity cutting Machines to cut that pipe. Everything I do in MY Car Port, that I did myself, So it would be tough to Get that Pipe Cut to fit.

Maybe 2 1/2" wouldn't be a bad thing since it sounds like you upped the compression...

Yeah I upped it to 9 to 1 and with the extensive head work I think 2,5 Might be the shiznit. Just going to hear what some of those engines sound like, for 275 for duals I cant pass this up. And I checked on the compression Bend, Everything I read says it is a great alternative to Mandrel. SO Iam gonna see some of his stuff and check it thoroughly. I hope he can bend well. Or he wont get my Buisness.

umm....isn't stock compression on the 2.4 motor 10:1? Are you sure you mean you are 9:1 cause if you are than you lowered your compression (hence lost power).

Compression bends should be ok, im in the same boat there is nowhere within like 2 hours of me that does mandrel bends, so compression it will be for me, It is not nearly as bad as crush, and its close to mandrel, but just a little smaller, doesnt leave pinch marks, only slightly distorts the pipe diameter.

I hope to get mine on in the next couple weeks, my stuff started arriving today!

Actaually Mine is more on the order of I think 12 to 1. I have to look at my spec sheets on the build. I was more concerned with head work that was done, But my Pistons are wiseco Nitrous Alloy with .20 overbore. Head work is a race head totaly set up accept Boost, And why Iam looking so hard at 2.5 in Pipe, now I understand I need to increase to 3 inch if I run a lettile heavier boost, But Iam looking at a setup right now that is only 5 to 6 lbs PSI, < Do you think that 2.5 will work?

96-98 2.4 is 9.5 to 1 , the 99-02 is 9.75 to 1

is there any difference between the bends on a 2.4 as opposed to the 2.2 from the cat back.....never compared them but they should be the same right......

nobody around me has a mandrel bender and 2.2 catbacks r cheaper than 2.4 catbacks

thanks
